Description
The creeping rhizome is 6 mm or more in diameter with the younger portion covered with scales. Scales are pale
brown when young, becoming dark with age, 3-4 mm long and the edge toothed. The stipe is about 40 x 0.4 cm,
smooth but scaly when young. Fronds 100 cm long, pendulous, pinnate, pinnae 3-5 cm apart and 20 x 2-3.5 cm.
Sori are sited in the costal areoles, about 0.2 cm in diameter and sunk in cavities that project as papillae on the
upper surface of the lamina.
Localities
On oil palms planted in gardens and along roadsides.
General Biology
This is an epiphytic fern that grows profusely from the old frond bases of mature oil palms (Elaeia guineensis). It
is also found growing from the forks of branches in old trees, occasionally in association with Bird's Nest Fern
(Asplenium nidus).
