PROJECT

SEP2017 LEARNING
AUG 2018
We believe that learning is vital to the wellness of human beings and their
society. In order to provide everybody with the chance to learn, however, it is
necessary to adapt the teaching to the student, to explore new methods, to
share experiences and knowledge because teaching and learning are most
effective when they represent two sides of the same coin.
This project is meant to share good practices, knowledge and experience in the
field of non formal education, innovative education methods and inclusion of
disabilities and people with an atypical development.
PiGreco is a center which focuses on study support, workshops, after school
activities, and in general empowering activities for a target group that includes
people with disabilities, with an atypical development and people in a situation
of fragility, including elderlies. For this groups a formal kind of education is not
effective and PiGreco's inspiring sentence is: If I can't learn the way you teach,
could you teach the way I learn?
We want to implement this project because we are passionate about non formal
learning and we wish to share this passion with the volunteers, to learn from
them and to provide training for them, so that we can share good practices and
spread all over Europe the idea that everybody can learn (and teach) regardless
of age, disabilities, social conditions.
The volunteers will have the occasion to learn innovative teaching methods, to
share their ideas, to implement their own projects and workshops, to improve
their language skills and chances of employability.

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this project can be divided into two main categories: self-
empowerment and inclusion of disabilities and people with fewer opportunities.
Starting from the ideas that a continuous learning process is crucial for the
wellbeing of the person, and that teaching and learning are two sides of the
same coin, with this project we aim to provide both the volunteers and the staff
of PiGreco with the possibility of empowering themselves and others through a
non formal and person-centered approach to teaching and to including
disabilities.

More specifically, the objectives of the project are:

- to increase awareness of the learning process;
- to understand techniques and good practices of teaching and being able to
reproduce and share them;
- to provide the volunteers with the necessary means to use, share and discuss
teaching methods and creative solutions;
- to boost the self-empowerment, self-confidence, self-esteem and personal
development of the volunteers by welcoming them in a creative and open-
minded environment where their opinions and ideas will be discussed and
implemented;
- to improve the sense of initiative;
- to provide the volunteers with the possibility to try different tasks so that at the
end of the project it will be clearer for them what they want to do in the future;
- to promote non formal learning and innovative teaching methods and
techniques;
- to support the volunteers with fewer opportunities by involving them in
activities (as for example writing a good cv) which will help them to increase
their chances of employability when they will return to their home countries;
- to research methods of inclusion of disabilities (in Italy and other European
countries) in order to study, implement and share them;
- to provide the volunteers with the necessary tools to work with people with
disabilities or with an atypical development;
- to support group-dynamics and cooperation by promoting mutual
understanding, cooperation and intercultural dialogue between the volunteers
and PiGreco staff.
