Title: Good Food Pyramid

Lesson:
- Discuss with students what they think healthy food is.
- Display a picture of the food pyramid and tell students about it.
- Draw a blank pyramid on the white board and supply children with a
range of magnetic foods. Get them to place them where they think they
belong.
- Talk about serving sizes of foods and use real foods to show children
what a serving is. Ask them first to show what they think a serving is.
- Get children into groups and give them a large sheet with the empty
pyramid drawn on it. Have them cut picture from food magazines and
stick them in the correct place on the pyramid.

Resources needed:
- Picture of Food pyramid for whiteboard
- Magnetic food pictures
- A range of foods and servers. E.g. rice, pasta, vegetables, cups, spoons,
scale for weighing
- Large sheets with pyramids pre drawn
- Old food magazines
- Scissors, glue

Expected Outcomes/ Assessment:


By the end of the lesson the children should be starting to understand where
each food group sits on the food pyramid. The assessment for this lesson will
come from the final activity and by discussions with the teachers as they move
around the room.
