Recessed lighting installed in planters, stairs, or retaininq
walls evokes a subtle effect around a project. It is an
opportunity for the lighting designer to create hig hlig hts and
nuances. Now Lithonia Architectural Outdoor inlroduces
the KL Low Mount Recessed Flood. the most innovative
approach available to site lighting. o

The KL Serres uses light to direct, emphasize, or suggest.

Rather than offering a range of specialized, single-function
Iuminaires, KL incorporates two optical systems: one for
symmetric area lighting, and the other for left or right throw
stair lighting (field adjustable). lt is not necessary to know
months in advance, when the order is placed, exactly what
direction the light must go. The KL gives immediacy of
choice left or right directional throw can be chosen at the
time of installation. Candlepower beam is also adjustable so
light distribution on the stairway plane is maximized.
A textured polycarbonate front cover. with tamper resistant
fasteners, withstands environmental challenges. Dark
bronze acrylic enamel finish is standard, with black or nat-
ural aluminum available. Housings ship separately and have
a hardboard cover to protect the box interior until the finish
components are installed. In addition to the standard
recessed concrete pour version, the KL may be ordered
for stud-wall construction. free standing units. or wall
mounting.

KLA Area Lighting
Creating a perfectly illuminated pedestrian path is easily
accomplished with the KLA. The one-piece hydroformed
reflector gives a symmetrically uniform distribution. A small
percentage of light also extends back up the wall to locate
it exactly for people using the site. The KLA is available in
all three HID sources as well as incandescent.
Left or Right directional light distribution is chosen at
installation.
KLD Directional Throw Lighting
Uniform light distribution from the plaza, down the stairs, to
a parking area is possible with the KLD. The unique (patent
pending) bi-adjustable socket assembly allows two modes
of light adjustment. Left or right directional throw can be
selected depending on fixture/stair position. Candlepower
beam may be adjusted up or down to optimize illuminations
on the stairway plane.

A.rea Distribution
A subdued. relaxing ambience is possible when lighting is
placed at low mounting heights. Lighting can be comfort-
able for pedestrians, but not harsh. ln the majority of appli
cations, the KLA is an integral part of a concrete planter box
or dividing wall. The multi faceted 'A reflector provides
general area illumination, excellent for an entry way, open
plaza or walkway. Optimum performance is achieved at 36"
to lamp center. for a broad oval of light with no hot spots or
dark streaks.

Directional Distribution
The side-throw capability of the KLD is unique in the
industry. Unlike other recessed wall mounted floodlights,
the KLD is easily adjusted for right or left beam throw. A
simple twist ol the positive-catch socket bracket places the
lamp in the proper position and a shield is rePositioned.
No tools are needed. In addition, various stairway lighting
angles can be set by raising or lowering the same soc
ket bracket into one of three predetermined positive steP
positions. Beam candlepower is thereby maximized to the
stairway plane.
