Introduction:
Now-a-days the need for renewable energy is
increasing because of the increasing fuel prices,
and as an environmental concern. Because of this,
there is an increase in the need for the
technologies cooperating in the increased
efficiency of the renewable energy generators.
Photovoltaic panel (Solar Panel) is one such
generator, and a solar tracker is the one which
increases the efficiency of such generators. Earlier
the solar trackers used to be only two dimensional;
that is, it used to follow the sun from east to west,
but if we take into account the movement of the
sun during a year, we see that the sun also moves
in north south direction (summer solstice and
winter solstice).

Abstract:
A solar tracker is a device which always faces sun
throughout the day and 365 days a year. It is
mainly used to track maximum energy from the
Photo voltaic panel.
Special arrangement of Ldrs has been used which
will enhance the working range of the solar tracker.
This in turn will increase its reliability in low light.
For three-dimensional tracking, two stepper
motors are used, one will track in a plane, and the
other will move this plane in a third dimension.
Block diagram:

Working principle:
Solar tracker consists of two stepper motors, two
sensors and a solar panel.

Each sensor is made up of 2 Light Dependent

Resistors (LDRs). Basic principle is that an LDR
changes its resistance according to the intensity of
the light falling over it.

This creates a voltage variation, which will be

acquired by ADC in PIC microcontroller.

This information is then used by microcontroller,

and stepper motors are rotated accordingly, so
that Panel faces the sun rays at right angle.
Applications:
This system can be implemented in Solar power
generating stations to get maximum efficiency
Can be implemented in solar street lights.
This method can also be implemented in solar
cooker etc.
