Service Hour Reflection Paper

This year, I had the opportunity to complete thirty-two hours of service. For these

projects that I participated in this year, I was able to benefit myself as well as the community. I

volunteered at three different places including North Hills Community Outreach, St. Alphonsus

Church, and St. Alphonsus School. Through volunteering at these places, I have learned the

concept of hard-work and assisting others. I have also realized how something so small can make

a large impact on the life of another. In this paper, I will discuss the types of service I completed,

and what I gained from my experiences.

In December, I organized and coordinated a food drive at a high school swim meet

against Pine-Richland High School. We were able to donate about three hundred and fifty cans of

food to the North Hills Community Outreach. This project was beneficial to the community

because their food pantry provides for over seven hundred families a month, relying strictly on

small donations. After thinking about how many hungry people I had helped, I felt a sense of

satisfaction with what I had done. Although organizing the project was very time-consuming, I

enjoyed completing my own service project.

I volunteered at St. Alphonsus Church during their annual Harvest Home Dinner Festival.

I helped by serving and making food. I also assisted in setting up tents, tables, auctions, and

games. Through volunteering at this festival, I was able to assist the people who attended the

event and benefit St. Alphonsus Church. This service project came along with a very laborious
and long day. However, during this service project, I enjoyed interacting with several people

while serving my community.

I volunteered with St. Alphonsus School at the grade school cross country championships

held at Coopers Lake. I handed out ribbons and medals, made announcements, assisted runners,

and posted results. Through this service project, I was able to help encourage runners and help

them throughout their long day. From this experience, I learned the concept assisting others. I

enjoyed this service project because I am a former cross country runner of St. Alphonsus, and I

was able to interact and spend time with the runners.

I was happy I was able to complete these service hours because I felt I was able to give

back to the community that has given so much to me, and I look forward to completing more

service projects in the future.
