Summary of the Event (at least 3 major points; each point will have its own paragraph)
A. ITT Technical Institutes around the country were closed down permanently. In 2004, federal
agents, search warrants in hand, swooped into the companys offices in eight states, closing
schools briefly as they hunted for evidence of fraud related to student recruitment, enrollment,
dropout rates, grade inflation, loans, and reported job placements and salaries.

B. A major grievance was that the industry was overselling programs that left enrollees with
deep debt and degrees that had little value in the job market. For-profit colleges were a magnet
for billions of dollars in federal student loans and grants to low-income students. In 2010, they
gobbled up more than $32 billion, a quarter of all federal financial aid, nearly double their share
less than a decade earlier, the Senate committee inquiry found. Hundreds of millions more
flowed in from the Pentagon and veterans programs through the G.I. Bill.

C. Some employees tried to change company practices. Rodney Lipscomb, the former dean of
academic affairs at an ITT campus in Tallahassee, Fla., said he was on the job six months, when
I really started to say somethings not right. Finally he was told a lawyer from the companys
headquarters in Indiana and the district manager were coming to Florida to meet with him. I
was very happy, he said. I thought they were going to take action. Instead, Mr. Lipscomb
said, they told him that if he continued to report his complaints, he would be fired.
Your Opinion of the Event (at least 3 sentences).
ITT should have been closed down long ago if they were cheating people. Even the employees
thought that what ITT was doing to their students was wrong. ITT made billions of dollars by
scamming people out of their money and not telling them about the debt the collected over the
years.

Relate your Event to a Historical Event (compare and contrast with current event).
This event is related to Julius Caesar's assassination. ITT was sent to court and forced to shut
down because of an employee, as to Caesar was betrayed by a close friend. ITT shutting down is
suppose to stop universities from robbing students, as to the death of Caesar was to stop rome
from having emperor's. Both of these things happened because someone was trying to help future
generations.

Relate your Event to the a Theme (at least 3 sentences). SEE BACK FOR THEMES
This event can be related to revolts and revolutions because ITT was in federal court and shut
down because someone believed that what ITT was doing was wrong and need to stop. A
corporation that was basically robbing people was ended because one person decided to do
something about it.
