TYWLS Course Outline for Students and Families 2016- 2017


Course Name: French III Credit Value: 2 credits
Prerequisite: French I & II Department: Foreign Language
Teacher: Danielle Dowdell Date: September 2016
*All courses assess student performance based on the TYWLS School-Wide Grading Policy for grades 6-12.

Course Description:
Students will continue study of the French language and culture in preparation for the LOTE
exam in June. This years exam will take place on MONDAY, JUNE 19th at 1:15pm.

Using the Workshop Model, we will be focusing on more complex verb tenses this year, which will
allow us to talk about our morning routines (les verbes rflechis), events that have taken place,
both recently (le pass compos) and long ago (limparfait), to make predictions (le futur), to
share dreams and plans (le conditionnel).

In addition, we will spend time with LOTE essay writing and engage in extended conversational
French.

Resources/ Materials for Differentiation:


As always, students need a section in a 3 ring binder, blue or black pens for assessment days.

We will continue with the Discovering French textbook series, level 2.

Students are given teacher-produced supplementary materials throughout the course.

In addition, students will be given accounts for & use the QUIA website and will read
JE TAIME together in class.

Project-based Learning Opportunities:
During the course of the year, students will:
Visually present their daily routines Ma Routine du Jour
Create a timeline for themselves, Quand Jtais Jeune (When I Was Young)
Orally present Si Javais Un Million de Dollars (If I Had A Million Dollars)
Create a Prediction Timeline for themselves Quand jaurai ___ ans, je (When I Am
___ Years Old, I Will___)...

Parents can expect timely updating of students PupilPath accounts, please be sure to check them
regularly. If unsure about how to do so, please have your child let me know, so that you can
receive the appropriate information.

Face to face meetings with parents will take place Tuesday afternoons from 3-3:30. Please
feel free to get in touch for an appointment ~ I look forward to talking with you! When not
meeting with parents, this time will be used for phone/email outreach.

Extra Help:
Tutoring is offered after school each Tuesday from 2:20-3pm. Peer tutors will also be
available at this time. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this ongoing opportunity.

LOTE students should use this opportunity to practice for the conversational part of the
exam in the spring.

In addition, I am available for help from 7:30-7:55 Tuesday-Friday mornings. Students must
request a pass to come to my room, which they will present to security upon arrival.
