Basic Facts
Born on October 7,1900 in Munich, Germany to a middle
class conservative Catholic family
Leader of the SS from 1929 until 1945
Many thought he was second most powerful man in
Germany
Was the senior official responsible for the carrying out of
the so-called Final solution.
Died on May 20, 1945 by committing suicide.
About His Life
Himmler was fervently patriotic.
Using his family connections began to train in the military as an
officer but WW1 ended before he could actually join.
In college he joined the German Nationalist student fraternity.
where he started to read the racist-nationalist (VLKISCH)
literature popular for the radical right political spectrum.
By the end of college he was a fanatical VLKISCH Nationalist
and political activist.
In 1923 he joined the NAZI party.
His Life Continued
On January 6, 1929, Hitler appointed Himmler leader of
the SS.
In 1933 he set up the first concentration camp in Dachau.
After the war started he really got to work. By gaining
control over the SS he was able to control the new
territories that were conquered.
In 1943 Hitler appointed him minister of the interior, where
he oversaw the Final Solution.
How He Died
Himmler attempted to go into hiding But was
unsuccessful.
He was eventually captured by Russian POWs.
He died by committing suicide.
He died in May 1945
