Statement From Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins

Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said, I congratulate Senator-elect Brian

Benjamin and look forward to him joining the Senate Democratic Conference. Brian Benjamins
story is a great example of the American Dream, and I am thrilled he is bringing that experience,
that drive, and that enthusiasm to the State Senate. Brian is an innovator and an entrepreneur and
has helped build a stronger, more sustainable, and more affordable community as a result. He
understands that action must be taken to improve New Yorkers access to a quality education,
good jobs, affordable housing, and health care options. I look forward to Senator-elect Benjamin
hitting the ground running and delivering real results for the people of Harlem and New York
State.

Senate Democratic Deputy Leader Mike Gianaris said, I want to congratulate Brian
Benjamin and am so glad to welcome him to the Senate Democratic Conference. With his
election we once again have 32 Democrats in the chamber and should have a Democratic
Majority that can give New Yorkers the progressive government they deserve. I look forward to
working with Brian as he fights for more funding for our schools, affordable housing and quality
