Load Test Procedure for Coflex Hanger

Introduction: The aim of this load test is to establish that the

structural integrity of the Coflex hanger is capable of sustaining
rated load in service conditions according to manufacturer/client
design and specifications. It is the purpose of actually overloading
the hanger to 2x its WLL considering dynamic loading conditions
in actual service to ensure full compliance and safety of the
equipment. Test specifications are according to design.
Coflexip Hose MGW: 6 Tonnes
Test coefficient: 2 (considering dynamic loading)

1. Pre-Load Test Inspection

Check/Inspect that all lifting gear/equipment to be used
for the test are appropriate for use with SWL clearly
marked and current certification sighted.
Confirm Crane periodic inspection reports and/or
maintenance records are current and compliant.
Check that crane can easily carry out test at stipulated
configuration, boom lengths and angles.
Rigging shall be arranged for the load test which
conforms to good rigging practice.
A pre-job meeting in addition to JHA should be carried
out with crane operator, riggers, signal man and client
responsible persons to establish how the test will be
carried out, responsibilities of each personnel, signals
to be used and other concerns as may arise.
Barriers should be set up around the operating
perimeter if necessary.
Carry out a visual examination of coflex hanger welded
in place to be tested; if okay, conduct MPI on all related
welds of the coflex hanger and test plate, then review
results.

2. Load Test
Rig up: - The load cell is suspended via shackles and
links to the crane hook and attached to the test plate.
To the bottom face of the test plate is attached the
water bag.
Connect the water hoses and zero the load cell reader.
With the completed assembly suspended overboard,
the water bag is gradually filled with water up to 12MT.
Ensure the water bag is not fouled in any way and the
area below is clear.
Communicate with signal man and have crane operator
gradually move water bag and lower bag in position on
the coflex hanger with securing pins until reading on
the load cell reader displays zero.
Observe the assembly in place for about 15 minutes.
After 15minutes of observation, test assembly is lifted
off hanger and water discharged.
With the load cell reader turned off, the test assembly is
put on deck and assembly rigged down.

3. Post Test Inspection

Carry out a visual examination of the coflex hanger and
check for signs of visible deformations and distortions.
Conduct MPI on the welds of the hanger and check for
cracks.
Review results and make necessary report.
