CASE REPORT: Halie Cobb and Carter Duke

Introduction: Last week, a young couple was out for an early morning run. Stopping to get a
drink, they stumbled upon what appeared to be a human skull. The police arrived at the scene
and went on to unearth two skeletons lying side by side. With a huge backlog of missing person
cases, the police are looking to you for answers.

The findings below show what was found:

Summary of findings: Our skeleton is an Asian female around 18 years of age. Her height is
51-55. Race is Asian because nasal silling was a rounded ridge and the prognathism is
variable with points to the Asian race. Sex is female due to the fact that the pelvis, tibia, and
humerus measurements match those with the average female. The slanting of the ramus of
mandible on the skull points to female. We determined her age by her two lowest segments of her
sacrum vertebra being joined with approximates her age to be 18. We calculated her height by
using the regression formulas of Mongolian females for tibia and the humerus. The minimum
and maximum height values were as stated above.

Further analysis: We could learn better more accurate ways to examine the bones to determine
height, sex, race, and age. With these different form of examination we could improve our results
found.
DNA analysis: The gel electrophoresis of the skeleton found matches that of missing person 2
who is Sally Jones.

Conclusion: We have determined the age, sex, race, and height of our victim using both
qualitative and quantitative observations, although some of our results were including those of
both genders and ethnic backgrounds we were able to draw a reliable conclusion. During our
identification process we ran across a few issues which could have led us to a quite different
conclusion for our victim, this only show how unique each individual person is in our world. Our
identification process could have been expedited if we had been trained in what exactly to look
for and we could have better known to ignore inconclusive results. The next steps will be
identifying who exactly this woman was and telling her family of her death. After that we could
determine if further investigation is needed. But with the DNA analysis we can confirm that the
body found was Sally Jones.
