HISTORY OF ANONAS
Anonasisafruitbearingwhichaboundintheplacetothisday.
ItwasalreadyaprogressivesettlementwhichinUrdanetawasfounded
in1858withabigchapelandspaciousplaza.theMalapit,Gallardo,
Gumtang,Aquino,Gandia,Lopez,andServitofamilieswereamongthe
firsttosettlehere.TheMalapit,AquinoandServitofamilliescame
fromMangaldanwhiletherestcamefromIlocosRegion.Theoriginal
nameofthebarriowasSanAmbrosioafteritspatronsaint.
CayambananwasformerlyaspartofAnonas.Thisbarriowasthena
territoryofMangaldanandevendeadpeopleinAnonashadtobeburied
inMangaldan.Afteralapseofanumberofyears,Cayambanan
segregateditselfasabarrio.Itturnsfornoknownreason.Anonas
wasalsomadeapartofCayambanan.

Mostofthepeoplearefarmers,someareweaversofbaracbac
slippersandtravellingbags.Othersraisepigsandchickensandput
fruittreeorchardsoftheirown.Somealsoplantkangkongandmake
powderoutofipilleavesforsale.Thepeoplealsousepuloanin
catchingshrimps.It'sprincipalcropisricewhileitalsoraises
corn,eggplants,tomatoes,andothervegetable.Theconstructionofa
feederroadgreatlyenchainedtheeconomicprogressofthelocality.
Flowingartesianwellscouldbefoundinmanyhomesforsafe
drinkingwaterandforotherpurposes.

HISTORY OF BACTAD EAST


BactadEastknownforitswideagriculturalfarmlands.Itwas
formerlypartofBactadProper(Brgy.P.T.Oratanow).Themainstream
ofthisBarangayanditshistoryisfinallybeganwhenprominentand
wellknownactiveresidentsleaderslikelateTenyentedelbaryoHipo
litoDelaCruz,ProtacioSuyat,EfepannioOsian,FranciscoUntalanas
wellasFlorencioManaoisseektheseparationofthisBarangayfrom
BactadProper.

ThroughthepersistenteffortsofthisleadersalongawaitedMu
nicipalorCityOrdinancehasfinallyapprovedin1964.Protacio
SuyatwasthefirstBarangayCaptain.BarangayBactadEasthasbeen
fastprogressiveandlikelybetterplacetolivein.Itislocated
intheEasternmostpartofUrdanetaCitywhichisaboutSevenKilo
metersfromtheCityProperalongtheprovincialroadboundaryleadi
ngtowardsBarangayDomanpot,AsinganPangasinan.

HISTORY OF BAYAOAS
Theprogresscanbeseenongrowingpopulationofaplace
andlivelihoodofeachpeople,Schools,Church,Hospital,concrete
bridgesandroads,commercialbuilding,businessinfrastructureand
governmentcenter/officesaresomeoftheproofthataplaceison
progress.Asidefromthesetheaccessibilityoftheplaceand
potentialityforbusinessfirmistobeconsidered.
BarangayBayaoashasitspotentialtobecalledor
consideredasfirstclassbarangayintheCityofUrdanetadueto
itsgoodlocationinestablishingbusinessfirm,commercialbuilding
orevengovernmentofficesandcenter.Butbeforewegoingforward
onwhattheBarangayhasnow,letusreminiscethepastwherethe
word"BAYAOAS"camefrom.

Basefromthegreat...greathistorianofhisbarangay,
thisplacehaveahugeamountofGuavatree.Oneday,agroupof
Pangasinanwomenvisitthisplace.Duringtheirvisit,they've
noticedthattheplacewassurroundedbyguavatree,afterwhich
theybegantopickguavafruitandateit.

Whileeatingtheguava,theylaughandcoincidentally
statedthatthebestnamefortheplaceis"BAYAOAS",aPangasinan
termfor"BAYABAS",whichisinilocanotermfor"GUAVA".Fromthen,
theplacewaspopularlyknownasBarangayBayaoas,whichnowis
understateofcontinuesprogressduetoariseofsomebusiness
establishmentandlivelihoodofitsconstituents.

HISTORY OF BOLAOEN
ThisFarmer'scountrywasformerlyasitioofBarangayCabuloan.
DuringtheadministrationofPangasinanGovernortheHon.Francisco
Duque,andthroughtheinitiativeofMunicipalandBarangayOfficials,
shefirmlyestablishedasaBarangayLieutenantthenwasthelate
DomingoB.MamaclaySr.

Andforalittletrivia:DidyouknowthatthepresentPunong
BarangayCESARM.LUCENAhadservedtheBarangayfirstasaCVOchief,
thentackledthejobofaCouncilmanoraKagawad.Nowhehastaken
thetoppost.

BOLAOENwasthenamegivenher.Itwastakenabigtropicaltree
called"Molawin"whichwasfoundinabundanceintheplace.Theterm
molawininPangasinenseisBolaoenasturdytree(SagatinIlocano).
Itwasthenameshecarriedfromasitiountilnow.

TheBautista,Mamaclays,Estiokos,LocquiaosandArqueroswerethe
firstsettlersoftheplace.Thefertilityofthesoilandthevast
landsuitedfortheagriculturedrewthisfamiliesfromtheIlocos
Region.Onewillnotwonderifalmostormorethanhalfofthe
Barangay'spopulationscarrythesefamilynames.Onthat,theprime
dialectspokenisIlocano.

History of Cabaruan
ThenameCABARUANmeans"REBUILT"becauseitrosefromthe
ruinsoftheSecondWorldWar.Theplacebecamethebattleground
betweentheJapaneseImperialArmyfightingagainsttheAmerican
soldiersandFilipinoguerills.Whenwarwasoverthepeoplewho
evacuatedstartedtoreturntoCabaruanandcultivatedtheir
farmland.CabaruanwasoneoftheoldestbarrioinUrdanetaCityand
itwasonlyduringthemartiallawregimeonPresidentFerdinand
Marcos,byvirtueofPresidentialdecreeNo.557,signedin
September21,1974,thatCabaruanbecameaBarangay.

HISTORY of camanang

BarangayCamanangusedtobeasitioofDilanPaurido,Urdaneta
Pangasinan.TheBarriocalled"Nagcamangan"(Placeofrefuge)but
theinhabitants,lateronitwasnamedCAMANANGforshort.Itwas
foundedin1857,thefirstsettlerscamefromNARVACAN,SANTIAGO,
BANGARandTAGUIDIN,allofILOCOSSUR.Butbecauseofitsproximity
toNANCAYASANitbecamepartoftheletter.

HowevernotlongafterCAMANANGaggregateditselffromNANCAYA
SANitbecomeabarrio.ItabsorbedthesitiosofBUTAOandMACALONG.
Theconstructionoffeederroadsconnectingtoownhasbroughtprog
resstothebarrio.IthasbeencalledCAMABUwhichstandsforCAMA
NANG,MACALONG,BUTAO.MostofitsinhabitantsengageinFARMING,
SMALLBUSINESSandFISHVENDING.

History OF CASANTAAN

LongbeforetheoutbreakoftheWorldWarIIandeventhe
beforethecomingoftheSpaniardstothePhilippinesthisBarangay
CasantaanasithasbeencallednowandthisBarangayCasantaanis
onlyconsideredassitioofitsmotherBarangayCabuloan.As
civilizationandeducationexpanded,thepeoplethoughtofmaking
sitioasabarangayandtoruntheirbarangaygovernmentindepently,
buttheycouldnotfinalizeditsname.

Theresidenceledbylawleaderssuggestedthatitsname
shouldCasantaanbecausemostofitsresidentcamefromSanta
IlocosSur.Itwassurprisingbecausethesepeoplecametotrade
withthepeopleofPangasinan.Uptonow,peoplefromSantaIlocos
SurarestillvisitingtheirrelativesinCasantaan.

History of Catablan
TheBarangaygotit'snamefromtheIlocanoword"Catablan"
meaning,aplaceoflumber.Itwasshortenedto"Catablan"by
theresidentsthemselves.ItwasbelievedthatCatablanwas
foundedyearsbeforethecomingoftheSpaniardsinthePhilip
pines.TheearlysettlerscamefromtheIlocosRegion,theywere
thefamiliesoftheLomboy,Barroga.

History OF DILAN PAURIDO


Duringtheearlytimes,people,merchantsandtradersfrom
nearbyplacesandprovincescometoUrdanetatobarter,tradeand
commerce.TheylovedUrdanetasomuchandmostofthemsettledhere
permanently.Theybroughtwiththemtheirfamilies,belongings,farm,
animalsandhorses.

Earlysettlersbecamefarmers,cattletradersandherders,
hacienderosandwealthytraders.TheydevelopedUrdanetainto
asmall,beautifulandvibranttown.Soon,itbecamethecenter
ofagriculture,tradeandcommerce.Sincehorsesandcattleare
themainmodeoftradingandtransportationatthetime,they
seeklandtopasturetheirfarmanimals,cattleandhorses.
Theytooktheirhorsestoanearbyplacewheregrassesare
luciousandbountiful,wherethenbecametheirgrazingland.

Duringthetimeoftheearlycolonizers,theSpaniardsthe
"Administrator"ofUrdaneta.Theytoobroughttheirhorsesto
thepasturelandtorestandtofeed.

WhentheAmericanstookoverthePhilippinesfromSpain,
theyexploredfurtherNorthandstoppedbyUrdanetatorest,
replenishtheirfoodsupplyandfeedtheirhorses.Everytime
theydropbygoingNorth,theAmericansareoftenheardsaid,
"Takeyourhorsestothepasturelandtograce".

Soonpasturelandbecameahouseholdwordoflocalfolks.
Cattletradersandherdersorderedtheiranimalkeeperstotake
theircattleherdstopastureland,

Asyearspassedby,Ilocanobecamethedominantspoken
dialectofUrdanetaandlandofpasturebecameknowntoday
asDILANPAURIDO.Dilanisderivedfromtheword"TheLand"
andPauridoisfromtheword"Pasture".TodayDilanPaurido
isthrivingandbustingcommunitynotonlyinagriculture
butcommercialandindustrialaswell.

ETHYMOLOGY OF BARANGAY DILAN-PAURIDO

PAURIDO

ThefirsttosettleinthisregionwastheSiquigFamily
headedbyDonEstebanSiquigwhoclearedthegreaterportionof
theLandthatisnowPaurido.

Hethenwentbacktohishometown,Santiago,IlocosSur,
whichwasnotedforitsbigherdsofcattle.Hereturedtohis
peoplewithseveralcowsandbulls.Becameoftherichpasture
lands,theherdrapidlyincreased."Paurido"meaning"pasture
lands"wasadoptedasitsname.Laterontheyweretransfered
toAlibeng,Sison,becausetheypasturelandsinPaurido,had
becometosmallforthebigherd.Nofixeddateofthefounding
ofthisbarriowasknown.TheSiquig,settlersofthelocality.

ThepeopleofPauridowereengagedinweavingbaracbac
slippersandhandbags,fruittreegrowingandpoultryraising.

DILAN

ThissettlementwascalledDilanbecausethesettlersof
thislocalitycouldnotriseanycropsintheirfield,thesoil
isbarren.Inthevernacular,barrenmeans"imadilan".Thisterm
wasshortenedtoDilanandwasadoptedasthenameofthebarrio
uptothepresent.However,todaythepopularnameofthebarrio
isCaloquiaoan.Thisissobecausehalfofthebarriopopulation
belongstotheLocquiaoclan.Dilanwasestablishedin1575when
theSpaniardsunderSalcedoconqueredtheNorthernProvinceof
Luzon.

TheoriginalfamilieswhosettledintheBarriowerethe
Locquioa,Caliboso,MartinezandAlejofamilies.

Thepeopleareengagedinpigraising,baracbacslipper
makingandhandbagweaving,fruittreegrowingandvegetable
gardening.Thiscropsarerice,corn,fruitsandvegetables
ofmanykids.

HISTORY OF MABANOGBOG

Justawalkingdistanceawayfromtheheartofthecityleis
beautifulplacetolivein.ThisPlaceissituatedbetweentwo(2)
rivers,theMacalongRiveronthesouthandMituraRiveronthe
north.ThisPlaceformerlyaSitioofBarangaySanVicentebutas
yearsgoby,theplacestandsindependentlyandbecameaBarrio
February27,1960.Mabanogbogisthenameoftheplace.MABANOGBOG
waspopulatedbythesettlerscomingfromILOCOSSUR.Itwasformerly
knownasCASANTIAGOANwheremigrantsfromSantiago,ilocosSurcame.

MABANOGBOGwasderivedfromroaringsoundofwaterfromthe
creek"BOMANORBORNGADANUM"inIlocano.Fromthenon,theplaceis
nowcalledMabanogbog.Mabanogboghasapopulation3,619itshasrich
andfertileland.Riceisplantedfor23croppingsayear,different
kindsofvegetableswerealsoplanted,itisnotedforitsfamous
SAMSAMPING.Inthelate1990'sMABANOGBOGwonastheCLEANEST,GREEN
ESTandMOSTBEAUTIFULBARANGAYintheWHOLEPROVINCEOFPANGASINAN,
atthetimeCornelioElegadoleadsthebarangay.

TheLeadersofBarangayMABANOGBOGknownastheTinyenteDel
Baryo.WereDonPabloLocquiao,DonSisinandoCaliboso,Barangay
CaptainGeronimoCaliboso,AnastacioBallesteros,CornellioElegado,
JimmySiquigandthe3rdtimerBarangayCaptainArsenioElegadoSr.
aformerSchoolTeacherwhohasadynamoofenergyinpublicservice.
DonPabloLocquiaoandDonFelicianoFiguracionDonatedalotwhere
MananElementarySchoolwaserectedforthebenefitofthepopulace
speciallytheschoolagedchildren.Today,Mabanogbogisoneofthe
MOSTCONDUCTIVEPLACESduetoitspeaceful,lovingandhospitable
populace.

History OF NACALOBASAAN
NancalobasaanisaPangasinanwordwhichmeansinIlocano
dialect"Nangcarabasaan"fotitwasthefirstcropplantedinthe
place.BecauseitislocatedattheintersectionofBinalonan,
AsinganandUrdaneta,itwasalsotimescalled,"Nagsangaan".It
wasfoundedsomeyearsafterfoundingofUrdanetain1858.The
firstsettlersintheplaceareViloria,Valdez,Marcos,Patacsil,
Sabado,andSeparion.

ThisisthebarriowheretheTanggalAmericanowas
constructed,adamthatirrigatesalmostallthelandsofUrdaneta.
TheDamwhichwasformerlycalled"TanggalMitura"wasfirst
constructedbythepeopleofMangaldanduringtheSpanishregime,
thebarriobeingpartofMangaldan,butduringtheFilAmericanwar
acertainAmericanarmycaptain,realizingtheimportanceofthis
naturalwatersource,improvedit.

Fromthattimeon,itwasTanggalAmericano.ThisDamwas
veryimprovedduringthetimeoftheAdministrationofManuelSison
asMayorofUrdanetawhichimprovementwasfinancedbythepork
barrelfundsofRep.AmadeoJ.Perez.Thiswaterresourceenables
thefarmersofUrdanetatoplantricetwiceayear.Thisbarriois
richrice,corn,rootcrops,coconut,bambooandothervegetables.

Thechieffarmcropisforwhichthefarmersrealizebig
profiteveryyear.Thepeopleraisepigs,poultryandfruittrees
intheirorchardswhileotherbusythemselvesinmakingslippers
andtravellingbagoutofgrasscalledbaracac.

A-1. History

BarangayOltamawasaveryquietandlowlyplace,withonlyafew

householdsandinhabitants.BasedfromstoriesIheardfromtheold

folkswhowerethepioneersinthisplace,theirancestorscamefrom

theprovincefromthenorth,theilocosprovincesandLaUnion.They

migratedtothisplace,clearedandcleanedtheforestlandswhich

becametheirhomestead.Thecultivatedtheaeland,plantedtheircrops,

andafterafewyearstheytookpossessionoftheselandworkedout

forthenecessarypapers/orownershipoftheselands.

Formerly,thisbarangaywasonlyasitioofBarangayCabaruan.It

wasoriginallycalledmaybebecauseitislocatedonforesthills.

SitioTalocatocwaspresentedinformerlycalledBarrioCouncilof

Cabaruanbytwocouncilmen,barely7yearsafter1965.Thepopulation

ofTalocatochadincrease,alongsidewiththesamedevelopmentinthe

community.SowhenBarangayCaptainEstebanBorgonia,theBarangay

Captainonthartime,hadseenthatthepopulationtoTalocatochad

increasedandmetrequirementsofbecomingaseparatebarangay,he

consultedthetwocouncilmenandresidentsinsitioregardinginthe

proposaltomakeTalocatocaseparatebarangay.

I. HISTORY
ThetownwasfoundedonJanuary08,1858byestablishingthe
ParishChurch.ThiswasdonebytheDominicanFathersofNearby
Manaoag.ThefirstappointedpriestwasRev.Fr.NicolasAlonzo
Manrique,aDominicanwhoconstructedimmediatelyonthepresent
siteawoodenchurchthatwasdemolishedonJanuary1945by
AmericanbombsbecauseofPhilippineLiberation.

OnMarch04,1884,Rev.RafaelCano,anotherDominicanlaid
outabrickfoundationofabiggerandbettersouthofthe
woodenchurch.Thisbuildingwasnevererected.But,in1954,
Monsgr.EmilioA.Cinense,BishopoftheDioceseofPampanga,
whowasatthattime,wastheParishpriestofUrdanetaerected
thepresentcementchurchfollowingthefoundationof1884.
ThefirstsettlersweretheDelPrados,Alonzos,Manangans,
Sipins,Rosarios,Castillos,Calacsans,Tignos,etc.

ThepresentsiteoftheMagicMallwasformerlyabeautiful
plazawithfountainsandconcretebenches.Thelotwasadonation
oftheDelPradoFamily.

petitionedtheSpanishGovernmenttoallowthemtoforma
separatepuebloforgreatertiesandstrongerunity.Their
petitionwasgrantedandUrdanetawasformallyfoundedon
January8,1858.

part.TheyweretheMiguel,Enguito,TabladaandBaybayanfamilies.
TheEstrada,DuzonandDelaCruzclanschosethecentralpart,Mones,
Suyat,andBasafamilieswhocamefromtheAgoosettledineastern
partwhilethePortez,Llegoandotherfamiliestookoverthe
southernpart.

OthersweretheTolentinoTulatoandPagadorFamiles.
Thepeoplenametheirplacesafterthetownoftheirancestrylike
KasantoDomingoan,KaAgooan,andKaSantoTomasan.Thefourthgroup
wascalledMacalong.Supotimacommunityisnotabarrrio.Itstands
forSugcong,Portugal,TimboganandMacalong.Thiscommunitybelongs
tothebarrioofBactad.

BactadwasthefirstseatoftheMunicipalGovernmentof
Urdanetabeforeitsformalfoundingin1858.Augustinian
missionarieswhoestablishamissioninthevillageconstructeda
conventandachapelwithspaciousgroundshereandtheplaceis
stillreferredtoasplaza.Thislandwhichisalmostthreehectares
isstillbeingadministratedbychurchauthorities.TheGovernment
seatwaslatertransferredtoBayaoas.

Farmingisthechiefoccupationofthepeoplewhoraise
rice,mongo,cornandothervegetablelikeeggplants,tomatoes,
cabbageandonions.Thisbarriofeelsproudforbeingthebirthplace
ofDr.PedroT.Orata,aneducatorofinternationalfamewho
contributedalotinhelpingmakethisbarrioamodelcommunityin
thePhilippines.Healsoworkedfortheestablishmentofarural
HighSchoolinthebarrio1964namelyBactadBarangayHighSchool,
CabuloanBHSandCabaruanBHS.

SIPIN,GRAVELA,QUERIDO,JACOB,ASUNCION,ELLAZAR,SOLIVEN,
MANIPON,ALMENDAREZ,SAPASAP,CASTILLIO,SUMERA,ELLORINand
MONDALAfamilies.

Asthisisanagriculturallocality,mostofthepeople
arefarmers.Rice,corn,tomatoesandothervegetablesarethe

"CASANTALUCIAAN",peopleusedtocallthisonceobscure
placewhereagroupofmigrantsconverged,insearchforagreener
pastureandsettledforgood.Notlongafter,thisplacebecamea
sitio,liketheCasantoDominganandAwedwere,Palina,thedomina
ntbarrioasBarangaywerethencalled,headedbyBarrioCaptain
AlejandroPeralta.ExceptforsitioAwed,Sitio'sCasantoDomingan
CasantaLuciaanbecamefullBarangays,CouncilorMelecioGravela,
nothingthatdevelopment.Ihardtointroduceinsuchawidearea
underoneleadership,sponsoredaResolutionthatwouldcreate
anothertwo(2)barangaysouttheoldPalina,givingthereason
thatthesesitiohavealreadyattainedtheFiveHundred(500)
populationcriteriaforasitiotoqualifyasanindependent
barangay.Theresidentoftherespectivesitio'sbecreatedas
barangaysSantoDomingoandSantaLuciaintheearly70's.

ByvirtueoftheApprovedResolution,CasantaLuciaan
formallybecameBarangaySta.Lucia,namedafterthetownof
IlocoSurwherethepioneersettlerscamefromamongtheprominent
familiesweretheSumio's,Javonillo's,Dismaya,Torne's,Antonio,
Bernabe,Lacorda,Jimenez,Villanueva,andEllasosandmanyothers.
Uptothistime,theyarestillthedominantfamiliesinthe
Barangay.

InviewofbreakawayStaLuciabeganlayingdownits
foundationasaBarangaySchool,childrenwerepulledoutfromthe
motherPalinaSchoolformernamedDolupaElementarySchoolcame
fromthenamesofSitioDomingoLuciaandPalina,toholdclasses
forthewholeyear,underbighousesintheBarangay,Mr.Valentine
Antonio,aprotegeeofBarrioCaptainPeralta,andthebuilding.
Laborintheclearingofthesitesaswellastheconstruction
materialswerepurchasedfromfundsraisedbyholdingtheBarangay
Fiestaandvoluntarycontributionsfromtheresidents.These
laterexpandedtobecomeSta.LuciaElementarySchool.

Basically,BarangayisapoliticalunitoftheGovernment,
andexistsunderthesamepoliticalstructureascitiesandmunici
palities,althoughtheBarangay'sisthelowestrankintheGovern
menthierarchy.AspautonomyGovernmentUnit,theaffairsofthe
BarangayisadministeredandrunthroughbytheBarangayCouncil
ortheSangguniangBarangayheadedbytheBarangayCaptainno
PunongBarangayandCouncilmennowBarangayKagawadsandpasses
ResolutionandenactOrdinancesbasedontherecommendationsof
theBarangayDevelopmentCouncilandmaintainssecurity,peace
andotherthroughtheBarangay.PeaceandOrderCommitte(BPOC)
ChairedbythePunongBarangay.

TheBarangaycouncilorSangguniangBarangayiscomposed
ofOfficialselectedatlargebytheresidentsthemselvesin
electioncalledtheNationalGovernment.TheBarangayfinancials
needsissourcedfromtheshareintheRealPropertyTaxes
collected,fromtheIRA,andthosegeneratedfromitslocaltaxes
ordinancesandgrants,aidsfromthecity,ProvinsialandNational
Government.TheCouncilappointsitsownBrgy.Treasurerand
Brgy.SecretarythroughthePunongBarangay,andwhoseappointments
arecoterminouswiththatofthetermsofelectedofficials.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF BARANGAY STO. DOMINGO

Wanderersastheywere,ourforefathers(LELONGsandLELANGs)
travelledbyfootallthewayfromtheIlocosprovince.Afterlong
daysandmonthsofwalkingbarefoot,thisparticulargroupfinally
settledatasmallcommunity,thencalledasPalinainthetownof
Urdaneta,ProvinceofPangasinan.Whiletheothergroupsorclans
settleindifferentpartsoftheprovince,theseearlysettlerswho
wereourforefathersselectedthiscommunityasawholeclusterof
Ilocanosettlers.SomesettlerscameallthewayfromSta.Lucia,San
Vicente,ViganandfromotherdifferenttownsofKailocosan.This
particularclanthatsettledinthissmallcommunityoriginatedfrom
theirnativetownofSto.Domingo,IlocosSur.Hence,togivememory
andtomanifesttheirloyaltytotheirformerhometown,our
forefatherslikewisebaptizedtheirnewfoundcommunityasSTO.
DOMINGO.

Inthosedays,Sto.Domingowasjustasmallsitio,Palinawas
thenrecognizedasthemotherbarriocomposedofothersitiossuch
asSta.Lucia,PalinaWest,PalinaEast,PalinaSurandAwed.
Astheyearspassedby,thepopulationofsitioSto.Domingo
grewupandproducednotedinhabitantsthatbecamefamousandwell
knowninthelocalcommunityaswellasintheentiretownshipof
Urdaneta.

Beingaconglomerationofdifferentclanscomingfromdifferent
townsoftheIlocosprovinceandtoestablishtheirownidentitywith
nabigcommunity,thisearlysettlersthencalledtheirgroupDOLUPA
tosignifythedifferentsitioofSto.Domingo,Sta.LuciaandPalina.

Takingintocognizanceofthegrowingnumberofpopulationthe
earlynotableinhabitants/leadersofthesitioofSto.Domingtook
theinitiativeofcuttingtheumbilicalcordthathavebeenattached
forsomanyyearstotheirmotherbarrioofPalina.Hence,aftera
carefulstudyandevaluationoftheneedsandnecessityofestablish
inganewandindependentbarrio,themotableleadersintheperson
ofApolonioTaacaSr.,PedroTabion,AndresRebebes,amongothers,
conceptualizedSto.Domingotobecomeanindependentbarrio.This
conceptwasconcretizedintheyear1968whenapetitionwassigned
bytheresidentsandwaseventuallyapprovedbythemunicipalcouncil
ofUrdanetaonthatsameyear.Afteritscreationasanindependent
politicalunit,anelectionforthebarangaygovernancefollowedas
thefirstBarrioKapitanwasAtty.AlejandroTabulafortheperiod
19681971.Inthefollowingyears,Sto.Domingowasgovernedbythe

ofPangasinananditsLandmarkisSouthwesternportionoftheCity
ofUrdaneta,asofthisdaysboundedofSouthwesternofthetown
Villasis,Pangasinancontaininganareaatmoreorless157
hectares.

Goingfurther,descriptionandsurfaceofthelands
coveredthisbarangayaremostlyuplandswherericeandcornsgrown
andsometimesmonggos,beans,cassavaandotherrootscropsarepla
ntedasalternativeunderthefarmimplementedformulaoftheunti
ringfarmersweretaughtbymeansseminarsconductedbysomefarme
rs,technicianstoplantgraftedmangotrees/seedlingsasaddition
alsourceofincomeofthepeopleinthebarangay.Somepeoplealso
raisedgoatsandcows/carabaosasidefromhogrising.

Afarasthedevelopmentofthebarangaywasconcerned,the
governingbodyofthebarangaywasheadedbyabarriolieutenant
(TinyenteDelBarrio)andsomesectoralrepresentativeashelping
handtogovernorrulethebarangayuntilfinally,thebarangay
wasproclaimafullpledge"Barangay"withregardstothepetition
fieldbygoverningbody,headedbythebarriolieutenantduring
thosearea.

ThereafterthegoverningbodiesofSugcong,beingoneof
those34barangayintheCityofUrdaneta,ProvinceofPangasinan
bestontheiroutmostsincerethanksandgratitudestothelate
Hon.Amadeo"Texas"PerezSr.andhisfamily,forthosesupports
assistanceontheachievementinthedevelopmentofthebarangay
Sugcongasoftoday.

oftheinhabitantscomefromtheilocosRegion,whereanidentified
familieswerefirsttosettleonthebarrio.

AfteralapseofyearsSupotimaregateditselfasabarrio.Al
thoughmostofthepeoplewerefarmerswhogatherBaracbactowave
slippersanddifferentlendsofbags,otherraisepigs,cattle,car
abao,chickensandgoats.Theyalsoplantedfruittrees,orchardof
theirown.Itsprincipalcropswererice,corn,eggplants,tomatoes,
beans,mangoesandothervegetables.

AfterafewyearsSUPOTIMAwasrenamedtoBarangayTIPOSUthro
ughpassingaresolutiontotheMunicipalGovernmentofUrdaneta
fromthemidst1962to1963,whereinsitioMacalongwasseparated
asBarangay.ThenewnameofthisBarangayisTIPOSU.

Ilocos,TheRamos'esandFiguracion'sfromLaUnion,andthe
Barbado's,Sante's,Manantan's,Rincuraya's,Tomines'es,Magno's,
Abao'sandMercado's.Otherclansfollowedsuchasthe:Gotgotao's,
Eufemia's,Sison'sandNazarro's.Mostoftheinhabitants.Mostof
theinhabitantsarefarmers,somearecarpenters.Thebarriowas
abundantinsugarcane,coconut,tobaccoandvegetables,becauseof
thehardlaborinprocessingsugarcanetosugar.Theinhabitants
helpedeachotherinputtingthestabbedbundlesofsugarcaneinto
atwowheeledcartpulledbyacarabaowhilesomefolksareinthe
fieldplantingtobaccoandharvestingtheircrops.Thiswasthe
startinnamingthebarrioasTulong.Soon,thefirstTenyentedel
BarriowasmandatedtobeCrispoloFiguracionintheyear1953,
follwedbyJesusGandiaSr.Thereandthen,theSitioTulong
separatedfromBarangayAnonas.Fortheperiod19631965,there
werethreecouncilmeninAnonasatthattimefromSitioTulong.
ThereareMarcelinoGotgotao,FaustinoGandiaandAlfredoGuevarra.
TheywerehelpedbyBarangayCaptainSeraficaofBarangayAnonas
andCouncilorLoretoBanag,andundertheleadershipofthe
newlyelectedMayorAmadeoR.PerezJr,SitioTulongwas
proclaimedintheyear1970asanindependentbarangay.

Now,thefolksofBarangayTulongraiseschickens,cows,
pigs,andcarabaosforextraincome.SomeareProfessional,
SkilledWorkersandOFW's.

BarangayTulongisoneofthebeneficiariesofPhilippine
CarabaoCenter.ThefolksareengagedinraisingBulgariancarabao
formilkproduction.ThefirstinEasternPangasinanthatgrows
widely.Thecooperativewasunderrehabilitationandwas
supervisedbytheTESDA.
