MONTHLY MEETING

The 6 monthly North Bristol Coordinators Force NW Association progress

meeting will be held at Redland Green School,
Redland Court Road, on Tuesday 12th April. PLI Insurance

AVON AND SOMERSET FORCE NW ASSOCIATION PROGRESS

As you will know from previous email correspondence, a steering group made up of volunteer
Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators from across the force area has been set up to progress the
formation of an A & S force wide NW Association. A force association is now a requirement of National
NHWN if we are to have a licence to use the NHW logo. At present we are working on a Constitution for
the association and the next meeting for the steering group is Saturday 9 th April. I will keep you updated
on progress.

PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE (PLI) NEW ADDITION TO NHW MEMBERSHIP

RENEWAL
Public Liability Insurance cover has again
been arranged FREE OF CHARGE by
National NHWN for all registered NW
schemes.
The insurance runs from 1st April 2016 31st
March 2017 and covers NW Street signs and
any events arranged in the Neighbourhood
Watch scheme name.

E-MAIL SECURITY
If you receive an unsolicited email purporting to come
from a trustworthy organisation or from anyone on
your e-mail contact list, but the e-mail doesnt look like
the sort of message you would expect from that
organisation or person; it may possibly just say Hello or
Hi, then display a website link, this is a phishing e-mail.
IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT NOT TO CLICK ON THE LINK.
If you hover the cursor over the name of the person or
company supposedly sending the e-mail (do not click
on it, just hover), it will show you the e-mail address of
where the e-mail actually originated, often from an e-
mail address abroad.
If youve received such a scam e-mail you can report it
to the Internet Service provider (ISP) that was used to
send the e-mail.
If the email came from a Yahoo account, send it to:
abuse@yahoo.com
Gmail has a Report Scam button and Hotmail has a
Report Phishing button.
DEMENTIA SUPPORT MEMORY CAFES
A new Memory Caf opened at Stockwood Medical Centre
on Thursday 17th March The aim is to run this on the third
Thursday of each month. This is a chance for patients with
dementia and their carers to come and have a cup of tea.
It is hoped that there will be occasional speakers. It would
be helpful to let the centre know if youre planning to
attend so that they can get the arrangements right, just
contact the surgery on: 01275 833 103.

INTERNATIONAL CRIME AND
POLICING CONFERENCE
National NHW Network Operations
Director Kate Algate and Vice- Chair
Lynn Farrar have spent two days at
the 2016 International Crime and Policing Conference in
London.
Home Secretary Theresa May used the conference to
launch the Modern Crime Prevention Strategy, which now
puts preventing crime at the heart of policing.
The conference saw leading experts from a range of
backgrounds - law enforcement, academia, the voluntary
sector, industry and government - brought together for 2
days to provide expert opinion and perspective on modern
crime prevention.
Kate also ran a workshop on helping at risk victims of
crime, and both were on hand to staff the Neighbourhood
Watch stall at the conference. Kate and Lynn were joined
by Mike Douglas, product director of Neighbourhood
Alert and 130 other delegates from all over the world who
had been invited to discuss the changing face of crime.
The conference was based around the six key drivers of
crime (opportunity, character, profit, drugs, alcohol and
the effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System) and
related activities that can prevent crime happening in the
first place.
Kate and Jim Madden (Chair, NHWN) constantly work on
your behalf in discussions with the Home Office to secure
support for Neighbourhood Watch nationally.
