You dont know what you dont know which can sometimes
make it difficult for primary care providers in caring for their
patients.
My visit with the member came just before she was being
discharged from a skilled nursing facility. I found a left carotid
bruit (artery blockage) that needed to be further evaluated and
talked with the member about the results of a CT scan done while
she was in the hospital. It showed a nodule in her lung had
increased in size.
I contacted her primary care provider to relay information on both
of my findings. The nurse said they were very happy to get my
information and to know the member received such a thorough
wellness visit. She said the office had not received the CT scan
and likely would not have gotten the information prior to the
members next visit. And, thanks to my call, the follow-up on the
carotid bruit would not be missed.
