Empire,Iwillarguethatthemostlikelyidentityofthepersonicationdepictedon
ric380and381isthatofConcordia.isidenticationtsmorecomfortablywith
therestofthenumismaticcorpusfortheperiod,andalsomakesgreatersensewhen
consideredinthemidstoftheintenserivalryobservedbetweentheyoungAugustiin
monthsprecedingGetaseventualmurder.

years. Much attention has been devoted to the subject of her life
and many have attempted to assess her unusually prominent role within
theSeverandynasty.[1]Despitethedierencesinfocusorpurposefoundin
each of the many studies on the empress, there is a consensus that Julia
representsone of the most honoured consortsof the imperial period.Al-
thoughallusionstoherprominencecanbefoundintheancientliterature,
thelevelofprestigeaordedtoJuliacanbemoreeasilyobservedinthesheer
numberandvarietyofcoinsstruckinherhonour,fromtheearliestyearsof
herhusbandSeptimiusSeverusreign(ad193-211)throughtothedeathof
hereldestsonCaracallain217,nottomentionthecommemorativeissues
struckinherhonourduringthereignofAlexanderSeverus.[2]Amongthe
