- **Compromise**:
+ Parties involved give up something to reach a resolution.
+ Parties are committed to resolution.
+ Result: No real winners and no real losers but also no real buy
in. Conflict may happen again.
- **Confronting**:
+ Problem solving is key: best way to resolve the conflict.
+ Fact-finding is part of the process
+ facts are presented to parties involved and decisions are clear.
+ Results: Win-Win conflict Resolution
- **Avoiding**:
+ One party withdraws and refuses to discuess the conflict.
+ No resolution is reached
+ Results: Lose-Lose conflict resolution.
- **Negotiating**:
+ With conflict resolution this normally involves 3rd party to help
all party come to agreement.
+ Collective Bargaining.
+ Similar to compromise: Split the baby in 2.
+ **Personnel removal/replacement**, special treatment:
Since we know there will be times when conflict management may not be
effective. How should we think about handling disputes among Team Members.
- Team Member Disputes
+ Patience, Fact-determination and meetings with goal of parties
involved to find a solution.
+ Situation can devolve into personal issues
- Involve HR
- Stand by policy, do not deviate. Legal issues if you do are
possible.
+ Result may be:
- Training
- Disciplinary Action
- Mediation
- Relief of Job Duties
- Disgruntled Team Members
+ Privately attempt to find cause of dissastifaction.
+ Listen fully
+ Stick to facts
+ ask to clarify negative statements (concrete situations)
+ If the project team member needs to be replaced try to get it
done quickly
+ Clarify and restate resolution
