Topic: Spicer 40K Gear & Pinion Kit Rationalization Changes for Service

Affected Models: All D404, DSP40, and RST40 Family Drive Axles
Dana in its continued efforts to streamline its service parts has rationalized out the original D/R404 service gear sets and
replaced them by the premium design DSP/RSP40 service gear sets. The original service gear/pinion kits were replaced
by the new kit part numbers as stock was depleted, a running change, which was completed towards the end of 2004.

In March 2005, the RST40 drive axle model underwent design changes that also affected the gear and pinion service kits.
As shown in reference chart-4 the service kits were changed with the addition of the inner pinion bearing. Complete
details of the actual design changes are not explained in this bulletin, but Dana will have a released information bulletin
soon.

All of the changes described above are value added by design, and will simplify the overall inventory of Spicer service
gear and pinion kits for dealers and rebuilders. The reference charts below are listed by models and are detailed on the
next several pages, they can be printed out as a useful quick reference guides to Spicer Genuine 40KGear/Pinion Kits!

Customers should note the above kits are now specific to the DSH/RSH40 models and should make reference to this in all computer & purchasing
systems along with older printed out literature. Although the inter-changeability of the parts still remains, in some instances additional parts, like wheel
differential cases are required to reassemble the differential.
