Irony
the expression of one's meaning by using language that
normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or
emphatic effect.
Situational Irony
irony involving a situation in which actions have an effect
that is opposite from what was intended, so that the
outcome is contrary to what was expected.
Verbal Irony
when words express something contrary to truth or someone
says the opposite of what they really feel or mean.Verbal
irony is often sarcastic.
Dramatic Irony
a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy, by
which the full significance of a character's words or actions
are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the
character.
Rhetoric
the art of discourse, wherein a writer or speaker strives to
inform, persuade or motivate particular audiences in
specific situations.
Rhetorical Devices
uses words in a certain way to convey meaning or to
persuade. It can also be a technique to evoke an emotion on
the part of the reader or audience.
Connotation
the associated or secondary meaning of a word or
expression in addition to its explicit or primary meaning
Denotation
the literal or primary meaning of a word, in contrast to the
feelings or ideas that the word suggests.
Diction
the choice and use of words and phrases in speech or
writing.
Syntax
the arrangement of words and phrases to create
well-formed sentences in a language.
