Preface

Future Manufacturing and Innovative Pharmaceutical Technologies

This special issue was conceptualized during the 3rd Asian Symposium on Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (ASPST
2014) & 3rd Enlarged Editorial Board Conference of Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AJPS), 25-27 May in Shenyang,
China when Jukka Rantanen, Mingshi Yang and Paul Heng met. The idea of this special issue was to elicit manuscripts on
innovative manufacturing of future drug products including the manufacture of complex formulations, advanced drug delivery
systems, continuous manufacturing principles, simulation of pharmaceutical systems and personalized medicine, among
others. The articles were solicited in 2015 by several internationally acknowledged groups within these areas, and they are
now ready for publication. It has been a productive period, thanks to the support of the many contributors with manuscripts
on topics ranging from innovative drug delivery systems, future manufacturing techniques to novel characterization methods.
The Editors wish also to record their thanks to the many voluntary reviewers, for their insightful comments and the editing
of the manuscripts.

At this juncture, it is heartening to know that the Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences has been selected for coverage
in the Thomson Reuters Index-Emerging Sources Citation Index. This reflects the maturity of the Journal, now accepted as a
premier pharmaceutical science publication in Asia. With the fast developing pharmaceutical education and industry in Asia,
many future innovations in pharmaceutical technologies could also arise from Asia. Development of complex pharmaceuticals
is an increasingly demanding task and a joint international networking will be a key for success in this task. The Editors wish
to thank the editorial team of the Journal for the strong support towards the preparation of this special issue, and gentle
reminders along the way.
