Autoclaves and sterilizers are used for applications requiring constant pressure and
temperature for long periods of time. Common applications include the sterilization of
instruments and polymerization of rubbers, plastics, glass, ceramic, water and culture
medium.
Steam autoclaves are far more common, using heated, vaporized water to kill pathogens,
and this equipment, J-NAS series Automatic Autoclaves use steam heating technology to
perform sterilization.
J-NAS series Automatic Autoclaves which are Laboratory autoclaves, are used in a variety of
thermal processing applications including general lab work, component and stability testing,
core hardening, drying glassware, and sterilizing.

Pour water into vessel of autoclave until water levels just above the holes of bottom plate.
Put the sample to sterilize into the vessel of autoclave.
z When sterilizing long hollow objects, place them horizontally so that the steam may fully
pass through freely. Placing them vertically may result in poor sterilization.
z When sterilizing waste disposal bag, open the opening of bag as wide as possible so that
steam may be soaked into bag. When the opening of bag is closed during sterilizing,
complete sterilization will not be achieved and may result in poor sterilization.
z Do not pile sterilizing objects on top of one another, as steam may not penetrate into the
sterilizing objects and may result in poor sterilization.
z When sterilizing liquid such as chemicals and medium, consider the capacity of vessel or
container containing the objects to be sterilized, and fill reasonable amount.
J-NAS103-M-E-09-001(REV.3) Page 16
Operation Manual
For example, as of Erlenmeyer, fill about 3/4 depth and as of test tube, fill about 1/2 depth.
If too much amount is filled, it will result in overflow as temperature rises.
z When melting Agar medium, fill no more than 2 liters per every vessel or container.
If more than 2 liters are filled, it will not melt completely.
Lower the lid cover by turning the lid handle clockwise by using both hand until lid gasket
