Confidence Interval
A confidence interval is the probability that either a proportion or mean will fall between
two distinct numbers. Confidence intervals help give us a good idea of the proportion or mean of
a population or sample.

There is a 95% chance that the true proportion of purple skittles is between 15.78% and
20.23%.

There is a 99% chance that the true mean of the total number of candies in a 2.17 oz. bag
Hypothesis Tests
Hypothesis testing is a good way to experiment with data, come to conclusions, and find
evidence to (not) support an opinion. Hypothesis test basically state the probability of getting a
repeated result from a different sample with the same parameters (sample size, for example).

Because P (.165) > .01 there is not enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis.

Because P (0000) < .05 we have sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis.

Conditions for doing interval estimates and hypothesis tests for population proportions:
1. n(P)(1-P) 10
2. random sample
3. n .05N
Conditions for doing interval estimates and hypothesis tests for population mean:
1. Random
