(045) 436-1846 /436-1849 HE DRO i CHEDRO lt MEMORANDUM No, 035, Series of 2017 To: HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS (HEIS) OFFERING SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (SHS) WITH STEM TRACK SUBJECT: STEM EDUCATION TRAINING PROGRAM-REGIONAL ROLLOUT DATE: 4 May 2017 Pursuant to the pertinent provisions in the Section 12 of the Republic Act 10533 otherwise known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 which mandates the Commission to ‘conduct teacher education and training programs, in collaboration with relevant partners in government, academe, industry and non- governmental organizations," following Schedule 1, Section 3 of the Operational Alliance Agreement between the CHED and the British Council Philippines (signed August 2, 2016), this Office hereby requests the attendance of, faculty teaching Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) from Higher Education Institutions. (HEIs) to the STEM Education Training Program Regional Rollout. With the introduction of Senior High School (SHS), subjects that were previously taken during the 1* year and 2"* year in college are now taken in Grades 11 and 12. This necessitates added retooling of all SHS teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge. The program therefore aims to provide training on inquiry-based pedagogies in teaching STEM. Furthermore, it aims to promote and capacitate teachers in using inquiry-based pedagogies in teaching STEM and create a learning community of STEM educators committed to inquiry-based teaching and leaming Relative to this, higher education institutions offering SHS with STEM Track are enjoined to send: For SUCs and LUCs For Private HEIs 1 teacher from the Math Cluster 4 teacher from the Math Cluster 3 teachers from the Science Cluster 1 teacher from the Science Cluster The training will be from May 29, 2017 to June 2, 2017. Attached in this memorandum is the schedule of activities. Exact venue will be announced later. Further, administrators are directed to allow their participants to attend the STEM training on official business. No registration fees shall be charged from the participants; however, their transportation expenses shall be charged against the sending institution's funds.
