We ask also that you pray for all of our Brother Knights who are in need and for their families and their needs, those we know
about, and the many that we do not know about.
We are happy to share announcements for new family births, birthdays, anniversaries, retirements and other special
occasions. Please notify Brother James Ryan so that we can share with the Council.

I can hardly believe that it is June, and we are fast approaching the close to yet another Columbian Year. I
would like to take a minute to thank all of the Officers who served our Councils and our District so honorably this
past year. It was truly my great privilege to work with you and to get to know you all. Especially all of the Worthy
Grand Knights. You all did a fantastic job, and I can only hope that in some small manner I was able to help guide
you along the way. I know that I am a better Knight for having worked with you all, and I look forward to many
years of friendship and Brotherhood in the future. I will never forget this time that we had together. At the same
time I want to congratulate all of the incoming Officers and wish them all good luck in the year to come. Please
know and understand that I am here to assist you and guide you in any manner, if I am able. I look forward to
getting to know you all and working together in the upcoming Columbian year.
Having said all that, I take it that you guessed that I will be returning for one more year as the District
Deputy of the Third New York District. I have also been asked, and accepted, the position of Chairman of the
Board of District Deputies for Suffolk Country. We will have seven new incoming District Deputies this year, so I
am sure it will keep me busy. All of these new DDs are outstanding Brother Knights, as are the other three returning DDs. I am confident
that together we will be able to assist all of the Grand Knights and Officers of Suffolk County and Suffolk will continue its dominance as
the driving Force in New York State.
As is customary, I will not be attending your June Meeting (except for 725), as that is your Council Elections. Hopefully I will see
some or most of you at some other function around the County like the Chapter Meeting or Fourth Degree Meeting. If not, I will see you at
the First Business Meeting in July!!
Have a Happy and Safe Fourth of July and God Bless,
Vivat Jesus,

Michael Boehm, District Deputy

Knights of Columbus Mourns the Passing of
Supreme Chaplain Emeritus
The Most Rev. Thomas V. Daily, Bishop Emeritus of Brooklyn, New York, who was Supreme Chaplain of
the Knights of Columbus for 18 years and a foremost advocate for the pro-life cause, passed away May 15.
He was 89 years old.
"I was saddened to learn today that Bishop Thomas Daily has passed away. He served the Order as
Supreme Chaplain with dedication and joy from 1987-2005, and will be deeply missed," said Supreme
Knight Carl Anderson. "In life, he followed the example of the good shepherd and cared deeply for his
diocesan flock and for the Knights of Columbus. I invite all Knights and their families to remember him in
their prayers."
In August 1990, following appointment by Pope John Paul II, he was installed as the sixth Bishop of
Brooklyn, where he served until his retirement in August 2003, a month before turning 76. Ordained a
priest for the Archdiocese of Boston in 1952, he became an auxiliary bishop there in 1975 and then served
as the first Bishop of the new Diocese of Palm Beach, Florida, from 1984 to 1990.
During his time as supreme chaplain, from 1987 to 2005, Bishop Daily was a popular figure at Knights of Columbus Supreme Council events,
winning hearts and minds with his easy-going style and regaling audiences with stories told with a Boston-Irish wit.
He was one of the first U.S. bishops to lead rosary processions from local parishes to nearby abortion clinics in peaceful demonstrations
against the taking of innocent human life.
Bishop Daily was born September 23, 1927, in Belmont, Massachusetts, and as he often noted, grew up in a Knights of Columbus household.
His father, who was a Maine state deputy and later represented the Supreme Council in New England and Eastern Canada, introduced his son
to the Order at a young age.
In Bishop Daily's final Supreme Chaplains column in the May 2005 issue of Columbia, he wrote, "Just as I was brought up in the Catholic
faith, I was brought up in the Knights of Columbus. Both educations have helped me as a priest and bishop, but also as a Catholic man
seeking to draw ever closer to our God."
He joined the Order in the same year as his ordination, 1952, and was a long-time member of Rev. Charles A. Boyd Council 6654 in
Brooklyn, and Bishop Cheverus Assembly 389 in Boston.

Members of the NYS Council made a

Pilgrimage to the Shrine of our Lady of the
Island on Sunday May 21st. Patchogue GK Bill
Fontaine was there and presented a donation to
Fr. Roy.

Weitzman and Chairman Ed Willie, who also made
a donation, along with many other Councils and

COLUMBIETTES CORNER
WE CARE - WE SHARE

Dear Sister Columbiettes and Brother Knights.

I can't believe that it's two years that I have had the privilege of being your president! The time has flown by, but
together we have accomplished so much. There are so many people to thank, but you all know who you are and how
many times you were right there to help me! You were truly a part of me, always ready with your time, a kind word
when I never thought we would do it all, and because of you, we were able to donate wondrous amounts to many, many
causes. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

I hope everyone had a beautiful Mother's Day, remember to pray the Rosary to Our Blessed Mother.

Our Columbiettes Chapter has become "The hostess with the mostest". Everyone had a fabulous time at the Mediterranean Manor. The
food was delicious, our ceramic planters with beautiful flowers, the music by Tony Grant got people up and dancing! The room looked
wonderful. Thank you to our committee who worked so hard to bring it all together. Again, more, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Congratulations to our scholarship winners who each received $200. They were Rylee Baker, Tatiana Drawbridge, Jonathan Passalacqua,
