Lesson Plan
I. Title/Topic and Grade Level
a. Learning and identifying the letter s, Kindergarten
II. Lesson Essential Question
a. How can we help the students understand the letter s and the sound that the
letter s makes?
III. Standard
a. With help from the teachers, practice writing, reading, and recognizing the letter
s and also words that start with the letter. To help the students understand the
letter s in the initial and final position of words.

VI. Pre-lesson assignments
a. For todays assignment the students are learning to pronounce the letter and
understand the sound the letter makes. We are making sure the students are
able to pick out the letter in each word that they are given.
VII. Lesson Beginning
a. The students begin with a morning meeting and during that time, they will start
to understand what letter they will be learning about. They w
b. ill as a group tell the teachers words they think start with the letter s. The
teacher explains that they will use the star fall curriculum and then she will
explain what the letter s sounds like.
VIII. Instructional Plan
a. Allow the children to get in their smaller groups
b. The groups rotate to each activity helping then understand their lesson and after
about 10 minutes in each group, they move on to the next activity.
c. Practice writing the letter s on the white board
d. Help the students practice writing the letter s in the air
e. Give each student the letter s poem
f. Read the letter s poem together in the groups pronouncing the letter s every
time they see it appear in the poem.
g. The students will then trace the letter s using the playdough mats and
playdough.
h. They use their writing to book and this allows them to practice writing the letter
s.
i. After they have gone to each activity, the final one is finding then circling the
letter S in their names and words.
IX. Conclusion
a. Ask the students about what they have learned in each activity. Explain to them
why it is important to understand each letter as they learn it. This will be
preparing the students to write not only words but sentences with the letters of
the alphabet. Then allow the students to show you that they understand the
letter s.
