Ab 284 (Mccarty) Officer-Involved Shootings - Oppose: Floor Alert
Ab 284 (Mccarty) Officer-Involved Shootings - Oppose: Floor Alert
On behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the California Statewide Law Enforcement
Association (CSLEA), the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs (AOCDS), the Long
Beach Police Officers Association (LBPOA), and the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriffs
Association (SCDSA), we oppose AB 284.
Law enforcement agencies have taken dramatic steps within the past few years to increase police
transparency, especially when tragically dealing with officer-involved shootings at the local
level. Further, many agencies are creating local policies, working internally and within their
communities. For these reasons, AB 284 is duplicative and is an unnecessary use of public
resources.
We oppose AB 284 and urge your no vote on the Assembly Floor. Instead, we encourage the
author and committee to work with local law enforcement agencies on policies specific to
individual communities. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact
our lobbyist, Shane LaVigne of Capitol Advocacy, at 916-444-0400.
