Your most important documentation is Truxton's birth certificate with the 1973
affidavit. It is an unusual document in that the original certificate gave the baby's
gender as "female" and the child was initially unnamed. Therefore, other
supportive documents are desirable to prove his parentage. Do you have the
1920 census for this family? I see that the 1930 census in enclosed, but what you
need is another supportive document listing young Truxton in the household of
his parents. I don't see the 1920 census scanned anywhere, although you refer to
it, and it is a pivotal document.
Am I misreading, or did Truxton appear both in the household of his aunt and
uncle and also in his parents' household in 1930?
Including causes of death can be very important to family history and I was glad
to see that you are mentioning causes of death, when known. This is information
your daughter and future grandchildren will need to have.
Since Truxton's marriage license does not include his parents' names. placing
him in the household of his parents in the 1020 census increases in importance.
There are two important documents lacking in this generation: Roy's birth record
and his marriage record. Knowing what a careful researcher you are, I am certain
that you have looked long and hard for both these documents. Marriage records
have been kept in Macon County since 1829, so I wonder if by any change Roy
and Ethel could have been married somewhere else? Wilma's statement can only
be considered "hearsay," as she was not even born at the time of the marriage. It
would not serve as a proof. Have you check surrounding counties for a marriage
record? I have researched at the Macon Countv Courthouse and found their
records there were quite good.
Although statewide birth records were not required in Illinois until the 2oth
century, according to The Handvbook for Genealogists, there are some birth
records in Decatur as early as 1850. In the absence of a birth certificate, here is
another possibility. Decatur had excellent early newspapers. I have read some of
