To demonstrate the phenomena of choking Equipment: Convergent divergent duct ~ (Please refer to Figure 1) Inclined manometer (s.g.f = 0.784) U-tube manometer (s.g.f= 13.6) Theory/Background of the experiment: Atmosphere COQ © Throat Figure | CONVERGENT-DIVERGENT DUCT Referring to the figure above, the steady energy equation between 0 and 2 is given by: St eo the F gE, tM; HW Wy cece eeeee(D) For gas with small elevations differences, Age ~ 0 For the isentropic flow where there is no work is transferred, g = w = 0, “0” is showing the stagnation conditions, so v, = 0. Make sure all the electrical supply switch is off, 2. Connect all the respective tube to the compressor inlet. 3. Make sure there is no blockage/object around the duct that may interfere the air flow into the duct. 4. Close the throat valve at the compressor exhaust to avoid unnecessary manometers fluid drawn into the compressor. 5, Connect the inclined manometer tube to read (P,-P,) and U-tube manometer to read (P, ~F,) and (Py—P,). 6. Set the speed control to 0 and push the ‘Run’ button (the indicator light will be turn on). To increase the motor speed, slowly rotate the speed control knob clockwise until the desired level. 7. Adjust the motor speed or the exhaust valve 10 give approximately 30 sets of readings. 8. Take the reading of barometric pressure P, and the atmospheric temperature 7, . ‘Thermofluids Lab — KIM470/LS 1/Rev. 00-2008 Results and Analysis: 1, Compute the mass flow rate values and record the respective values in a table provided at the end of this manual. Calculate the remaining parameters required using the formula ven in the table. 2. Plot graphs of: i mys. (Rh -P) ii, mvs. PB iii, mvs. (-P,) iv. mvs. B, and v. (Po — Py) vs. (Py Py) 3. Comment on the graph shape that you were obtained. Compare the maximum values for . / ‘mand the minimum for 2/4, from the trial with the theoretical values. 4. Make sure you read the objectives carefully and make conclusion based on them ‘Thermofluids Lab ~ KJM470/LS1/Rev, 00-2008 CONVERGENT-DIVERGENT DUCT TEST SHE! |e | A] TAR RA R-A, A (mm) | (mm) | (kPa) | (kPa) | (kPa) | (kPa) | (kPa) “2
