ValleyViewMiddleSchoolencouragesstudentstotakeprideintheirattireasitrelatestotheschoolsetting.
Studentsshoulddressinamannerthat,inadditiontofollowingguidelines,takesintoconsiderationthe
educationalenvironment,safety,healthandwelfareofselfandothers.Belowisalistofexamplesthatisnot
allowedinschool.Thislistisnotallinclusive.Finaldecisionsonstudentdresscodewillbemadebybuilding
administration.
Clothingthatdoesnotcoverthemidriffandchestisnotallowedclothingthatdoesnotcover
undergarments,andundergarmentsthatarewornasoutergarmentsareallexamplesofdressthat
createsadistractingenvironment.
Shoulderstrapsonshirtsmustbeatleastoneinchthick.
Hats,gloves,sunglasses,hoods,andjacketsintendedforoutdoorusearenotallowedduringthe
schoolday.Studentsmuststoretheseitemsintheirlockers.Exceptionsaremadeifheadwearis
necessaryforhealthorreligiousreasons.
Backpacks/bagsarenotallowedintheclassroomduringtheschoolday.Studentsmayuseabackpack
orbagtocarrybooksandmaterialsbetweenhomeandschool.Atschool,however,itistobestoredin
alockerandnotbroughttoclassorleftinthehallway.Thisincludesdrawstringbackpacks,purses,and
gymbags.
Clothingthatincludeswordsorpicturesthatareobscene,vulgar,conveysexualinnuendos,abuseor
discrimination,orwhichpromoteoradvertisepornography,alcohol,chemicals,tobaccooranyother
productthatisillegalforusebyminors.Profane,defamatoryjewelryorwritingin/onnotebooksor
foldersisnotacceptable.
Studentswillnotbeallowedtohavepantssag.Underwearorshortsunderthepantsmaynotshow.
Thewearingofashirtoutsideyourpantstocoverupyourunderwearorshortsisstillaviolationofthis
rule.Pantsmustbewornatthewaist.
Withouttightsorleggings,Shortsandskirtsmustprovideappropriatecoverage.
Goingbarefoot,wearingslippers,orwearingpajamasisneveracceptable.
Gangaffiliationsigns,symbols,jewelry,adjustmentstoclothingandattirethatrepresent
acknowledgedgangsorgangactivityareprohibited.Nobandanasofanycolor,sizeorshapemaybe
carried,wornordisplayedonschoolproperty.Thisalsoincludessimulationofanyrepresentingcolors.
Jewelryshallnotbewornifitpresentsasafetyhazardtoselfand/orothers,orifithasadisruptive
impact.
Itemsconsideredtobeculturallyinsensitiveareunacceptable.
Ifastudentviolatesdresscode,staffwillasktochange/fixtheirattire.Ifthereisrefusaltochange,
cannotchangeorarepeatedviolationmorethanonceinaschoolday,theyshouldbesenttothe
office.Basedonthesituation,studentswilleithercomplywiththedresscodeandreturntoclassorbe
dismissed.Chronicdresscodeviolatorswillbesubjecttoadditionalconsequences.
