Eugene Public Works Initiates Sixth and Seventh Avenue

Improvement Project

The Eugene Public Works Department announced an

improvement project to restore the deteriorated roadbeds of sixth and

seventh avenues between High and Garfield Street. The project will add

a sixth lane to facilitate traffic flow.

Construction between High and Garfield is scheduled to begin

Monday, October 10, 2016. The projected completion of the project is

scheduled for Friday, December 9.

Two lanes of traffic will remain open during construction

according to Project Manager Mack Trucks. Adjacent properties will

have access available. Additionally, no businesses or residents will be

forced to relocate due to construction.

The project requires the removal of 26 historic trees. However,

the project shall preserve another 26 historic trees. Moreover, the

project is expected to plant nearly 600 new trees along the

reconstructed sidewalks. New sidewalks will be installed along with

new traffic signals, streetlights and signs; new curbs and gutters will be

installed to improve drainage.

Federal funds will finance the 10.2 million dollar project
