Automotive Career prospects
Directed by an industry advisory panel of senior automotive engineers, it is suitable for graduates
in engineering, physics or mathematics, seeking careers designing and developing the automotive
systems, technologies and components of the future.
During the year students will carry out research into a current automotive challenge, participate in a
group design project and complete a research thesis project.
Taught modules will typically include vehicle design, powertrain and performance, automotive
control and simulation, vehicle structures and crashworthiness, dynamics, ride and handling,
instrumentation and testing, engine simulation and performance and suspension design.
This course is ideal for students with an engineering, mathematics or applied science undergraduate
degree with the capabilities to develop a skill set combining electrical, mechanical, control systems
and physical system modelling.
The demand for these skills - and the relative scarcity of supply - means that successful students
emerging with the ability to apply the principles and practice of automotive mechatronics are in great
demand by businesses worldwide and can look forward to swift career progression.
