Mrs. Perry
552 Smithbridge Road
Glen Mills, PA 19342

Dear Mrs. Perry,

The three schools I researched are Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Shippensburg University, and the
University of Scranton. I selected these schools because I have visited both IUP and Scranton, and plan to visit
Shippensburg in the future. My mom is also an alumni of Scranton. The academic offerings of these three
schools correlate with what I want in my future school because they all have great programs for students who
would like to get their Masters degree in teaching. I selected three schools that are located in Pennsylvania
because I plan to major in Elementary Education. Pennsylvania is one of the hardest states to get a certificate in,
so getting my certificate in state would make it easier if I plan to stay in PA to teach after college. Even if I plan
to move out of state, it is easier to transfer a teaching certificate to another state than to transfer it into
Pennsylvania from another state. I am looking for schools that are in an urban location or are located near a
small town. All of the colleges offer elementary education as a major. I can afford all three of the colleges I
chose.

I would consider IUP and Shippensburg as safety schools and Scranton as a middle of the road school. For IUP,
the admission requirements are the SAT, GPA, school record and test scores. For Shippensburg, the admission
requirements are the ACT, class rank, College Prep Program, GPA, SAT, school records, and test scores. For
Scranton, the admission requirements are class rank, essay, GPA, recommendations, school record, and test
scores. Between now and application time, I will be taking the SAT again, taking the ACT, and I will need to
apply for scholarships and financial aid, ask my teachers for letters of recommendation, and finalize my college
essay. Knowing my personality from the Myers-Briggs test helped me choose what types of colleges I would
like. These three colleges will help me achieve my goals and dreams because of the academic opportunities
each have, including the ability to get a Masters degree in my major, taking classes where I am able to perform
fieldwork in an actual classroom, and being able to earn my certification in teaching in Pennsylvania.

Sincerely,
Sarah Curtius
