Short storytto rocked back on her chair,

closing her grey-green eyes.
Six hours by herself to fill,
and Otto knew exactly what
she wanted to do; go to Reputo. So she
walked out of the back door to see the
night sky, stencilled with neon green
stars which were printed intricately.
Though she had been sure it had
been midday when she had crossed
the border from her house into Reputo,
she could no longer check, because her
watch had suddenly stopped, and the
house had simply disappeared. Otto
was not at all worried or scared, but
pleased, because she knew she had
just stepped through Reputo’s gate.
As Otto walked, the pink
grass ­became springy trampoline
­material, and she realised there was
no moon. “I wish there was a full
moon above me,” she thought.

But as soon as her mind pondered
the concept of sleep, Reputo became,
well . . . nothing. Otto had nothing to
breathe; she was clutching her chest.
When she opened her eyes, the dark­
ness was impossible to break the
­surface of (close your eyes in a dark
room and you will understand the
­sensation). Otto tried to scream but
someone had a remote control and had
just pressed “mute”.
But then Otto saw a light ­coming
­towards her; it was a boy. He was
­albino, his hair wispy, his eyes a pale
yellow. “Hello Ottoline. My name is,”
stated Nameless. “I do everything that
anyone who comes here wants.”
“Take me home . . . please!” No
longer than a thousandth of a second
after the final sound was formed,
Otto was about to wake up, outside
her house. Was it her or did Reputo
mean “think” in Latin? . . . Whatever
the word meant, Otto vowed never to
­venture into the mercyless caverns of
her mind again.
