Ayn Rands THE FOUNTAINHEAD, 1949 Directed by: King Vidor

In a todays reality, those powerful are those who gain the highest
integrity; making them egoistic and selfish. But for The Fountainheads
main character, an amateur Architect Howard Roark it is not. He stood
for what he believes in and claims a pride, which for me has be earn.

I was not expecting to be hooked by the movies message. I do not

love it and I do not hate it as well. I disagree on Howard Roarks
egoistic belief but I understand and respect his belief and his
perception to architecture integrity. I do not hate it by its approach
especially the writers idea emphasizing an architect and his works
integrity; to build what he design it as it is, and the opposite wherein
considering the client and the community wants and needs. The two sides of the coin in the
Architecture career.
For a long time, Howard Roark hasnt built
any of his designed building. Then an offer came
to him, a bank company wants him to be
the architect for their new building in New
York but in his proposed design the
company wants it to have a touch of Greek
Classical Style, which Roark refuses. Roark
wants his design to be built as it is and said
he would rather work in a quarry than become slave for his work. This
situation made me think that, isnt it as an Architect, we have to consider
the wants of the client in according to the Code of Ethical Conduct and
standards of Professional Practice. Then if a conflict rise, each party must respect each side
and settle. As an a Architect it is not rightful to fought with a client; an Architect must handle
the situation professionally especially in the beginning stage of the career. Considering the
public or client demand for me might seem like being a slave, bt come to think of it from a
different dimension. It is a service we offer to the society to make a city; the world a better
place a live.
