HYPERNYM

Hypernym is a word that denotes general category.
Hypernym is also called Generic term, Super-ordinate, Super-type, or Superset

HYPONYM
(HYPO-under / ONYM- name)
Hyponym is a word that denotes particular item from general category.
Hyponym is also called Subordinate, Subtype or Subset

Ex.

HYPERNYM HYPONYM
Game Football, Basketball, Hockey
Birds Parrot, Peacock, Eagle
Colors Red, Green, Blue, Yellow

Words that are hyponyms of a particular hypernym are called co-hyponyms.

From the example above, we can say that: football, basketball and hockey are Co-
hyponyms.
