This 30-minute special education lesson plan aims to help students identify numbers 1-20. The lesson introduces numbers by having students state their own ages. Students will then work on identifying single numbers the teacher writes on the board and saying them as a group. For practice, students each receive teddy bear markers and make groups matching the numbers. If time allows, the lesson introduces addition and subtraction by having students make groups for problems written on the board. The teacher monitors student progress and struggles to focus future lessons.

Objective Students will be able to identify numbers 1-20 in 4 out of 5 trials. Materials White board, dry erase marker, teddy bear markers Introduction 1. Ask the students how old they each are. 2. Go around and have each student answer. 3. Say, Did you all know you just said a number?! We are going to learn about numbers again. Can we do that?! Development 1. Then ask the whole group what number it is, and have them say it as a group. 4. Repeat this process again with another number 1-20. Practice 1. Give each of the students a handful of teddy bear markers, and say that they are not to share or play with. 2. Tell the students you are going to write a number on the board again, and this time they have to count out the number of teddy bears out that matches the number you write on the board. 3. Repeat this process for a variety of numbers 1-20. If Time: 4. Write two numbers between 1-20 on the board, and have the students make two groups of both numbers. 5. Then write a plus sign between the two numbers, and ask the students to make another group with the answer. 6. Repeat this process with subtraction.
