Scale Removal from Diesel Engine Cooling Systems

Product: NALFLEET Sea Shield Safe Acid Cleaner

Initial Warning: Carbon Dioxide will be formed in this operation so it is essential to


ensure plenty of ventilation.

Treatment:

1.) Drain system and refill with fresh water.

2.) Heat System to 50 to 60 degrees C. Note: If aluminum components are present in


the system temperature should be kept below 50 degrees C.

3.) Calculate quantity of Safe Acid required by using 50 kg per ton of cooling water.

4.) This calculated quantity of Safe Acid should be dissolved in warm water before
adding to the system to ensure good mixing. This solution should be less than
10% water.

5.) Drain the expansion tank and add the acidic solution.

6.) Draw the acidic solution into the cooling system.

7.) Circulate the cooling water for 5 to 6 hours at 50 to 60 degrees C.

8.) Visually examine the scaled areas to assess effectiveness of the initial clean. If
scale is not completely removed repeat steps 1 through 6 above.

9.) Once scale has been removed, drain the system and flush thoroughly with fresh
water.

10.) Neutralize the remaining acid in the system by filling system with fresh water
containing Nalfleet BWT-Alkaline Treatment Liquid. Dose this chemical at 3
gallons per ton of cooling water.

11.) Drain and rinse until the pH of the rinsing water is above pH 7 (neutral).

12.) Refill system with distilled water and recharge system with 4.5% Nalcool 2000.
