Romeo and Juliet Editorial

The two families should not be fighting in the streets. Both families have hated each other for a
very long time, and have had a feud for as long as anyone can remember. The Capulets wanted
to fight the Montagues, but they did not want to start the fight themselves.

One reason why they should not be fighting is that it is illegal. If ever you disturb our streets
again, your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace (1.1.94-95). In order to stop the fighting, the
Prince has declared that anyone breaking this law will be executed.

Someone could get seriously hurt or killed. you men, you beasts, that quench the fire of your
pernicious rage with purple fountains issuing from your veins (1.1.82-83). They are fighting
with swords, and it is very easy for someone to get stabbed, even if they are not in the fight.

Fighting disrupts the peace of Verona. By thee, old Capulet and Montague, have thrice
disturbd the quiet of our streets (1.1.88-89). It is obvious that the peace officers and citizens
are tired of the two families fighting and disrupting the peace of the city. This is the third time a
fight has taken place.

For these reasons, the families should not be fighting in the streets. As a solution, it is
recommended that the Capulets and Montagues be banished if another fight occurs.
