The celebration honoring Buford Scotts lifelong dedica-


tion to economic education in Virginia was held at The
Commonwealth Club in Richmond. The Virginia Council on
VCEE Executive Director Daniel R. Mortensen, honoree Buford Scott, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond President and CEO Jeffery
Economic Education (VCEE) organized the event, with hon-

As one of the founding board members
of VCEE, Scott has a deep passion and
vision of financial literacy for all. Two
hundred guests joined the organization
in honoring Scott for his contributions in
helping to provide training and classroom
resources for economic and financial edu-
cation for Virginias K-12 teachers. Gerald
L. Baliles, former governor of Virginia and
a close friend of Scott, served as master
of ceremonies for the program, which
featured Jeffrey M. Lacker, president and
chief executive officer of the Federal Re-
serve Bank of Richmond. The crowd heard
from one of the 2,000 teachers that VCEE

to honor Scotts achievements and ensure that Virginia
continues to lead the way in providing the best possible
economic education to its students. Stewardship for the
endowment will be provided by The Community Founda-
tion Serving Richmond and Central Virginia. As leader
of The Scott Group of BB&T Scott & Stringfellow, Buford
Scott began his career with Scott & Stringfellow in 1958.
He continues to serve as chairman of the firms board of
directors. Buford is married to Susan Elder Bailey; they
have three children and nine grandchildren. Scott has
served as chairman of several organizations including Daphne Maxwell Reid,
the Virginia Council on Economic Education, Richmond Tim Reid and Buford Scott
Chamber of Commerce,
Richmond Area United
Givers Fund and campaign
of the United Way, Elk Hill
Farm, Police Benevolent
Association, Virginia Men-
toring Program, Sheltering
Arms Hospital, and Virgin-
