JOB DESCRIPTION
New York City Relief is a growing Christian non-profit organization that operates a mobile
outreach to the homeless. The organization has a budget of 2.7 million dollars and
mobilizes over 7,000 volunteers a year to connect the homeless to resources that lead to life
transformation. NYCRs C.O.R.E. values are:
New York City Relief, d/b/a The Relief Bus, is seeking someone who is passionate about
empowering volunteers and has vision for overseeing the coordination of volunteers
serving with NYCR.
Through the process of serving many of the volunteers lives are also transformed.
Volunteers return home as different people and carry their experiences back with them to
further transform their own communities. This role is crucial in that the better job we do
supporting our volunteers, the more they are connected to the mission NYCR and prepared
to minister on the streets with NYCR or at home. Our goal is to cultivate relationships with
our volunteers that can build into long lasting partnerships.
The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for the majority of communications and
scheduling for our local volunteers and assisting with preparing teams that stay at the
Relief Base to serve with NYCR. The Volunteer Coordinator reports directly to the Director
of Volunteer Relations. The individual should be hard working, motivated, personable, have
strong communication, computer and administrative skills.
JOB SUMMARY:
To help foster a supportive and encouraging environment for volunteers serving for one
day, one week or our repeat volunteers. Coordinate the scheduling of volunteers serving at
NYCRs outreaches, support the needs of volunteer teams staying at The Relief Base,
effectively and consistently communicate with volunteers, appreciate volunteers for their
service and update or create volunteer documentation as needed. Periodically participate
in outreach events.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major responsibilities for the position include:
Volunteer Documentation:
Implement and maintain organization structure of volunteer documents in Dropbox
Ensure all applicable volunteer documentation is up to date and saved on Dropbox.
Create new volunteer documents as needed.
Update Volunteer Application and Volunteer Check-In documents and online forms
as needed.
Volunteer Partnerships:
Communicate opportunities for volunteer partnership; regularly serving with NYCR,
emergency call list, etc.
Connect volunteers with other ways to partner with NYCR: Suggest/coordinate sock
and hygiene donations, financial giving to volunteers, etc.
Attend volunteer fairs or other conferences to promote NYCR.
Other responsibilities:
Assist with data entry and outreach related documentation as needed.
Hours:
Full time, 40-hour work week (some flexibility in hours). There is also the option to stay
overnight on Tuesday & Wednesday at our facility when we have base teams and only work
M-Th.
Monday: 9:00am-5:00pm.
Tuesday: 9:00am-8:00pm.
Wednesday: 12:00pm-8:00pm.
Thursday: 9:00am-5:00pm.
Friday: 9:00am-2:00pm
Community:
All staff participate in regular Tuesday morning meetings for times of worship, prayer,
discipleship and business meetings. These are key times of community building, deepening
of relationship and accountability that create a culture of interdependence. Each staff
member is expected to periodically lead times of prayer or Bible study. All staff also
participate periodically in The Relief Bus outreach and minister to the poor and homeless
through prayer and ministry of the Word of God with individuals.
Full medical insurance benefits are provided through our Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield
PPO medical insurance plan.
Vacation time is generous. NYCR shuts down for two weeks at the end of August. One week
is taken off for Christmas and several other holidays are observed. After one year of
employment, an additional week of vacation is allowed per year at the staff persons
discretion.

Key needed skills- Does the person have unique skills that are vital to our
organization?
Problem solving skills- Can the person navigate and overcome challenges or
obstacles?
Sobriety- Does the person have victory in areas of life controlling addictions?
House in order- Is there stability in the management of the family life, marriage and
children? Are finances, budgeting and money management in order?
Humility- Is the person teachable and able to take direction? Will they trust the
decisions made by leadership?
Self-starter- Is the person proactive in finding what needs to be done and doing it
without being instructed?
Calling- Does the person feel a specific call to this organization and does NYCR
leadership confirm this call? Are they willing to enter into a probationary time of
service as part of the process?
