Hamilton wins Canadian GP; Brown


runner up at Summer Nationals

After a disappointing showing at the Monaco Grand Prix back in May,
Lewis Hamilton of Great Britain returned to form at the Canadian Grand
Prix in Montreal, Quebec at the Ile Notre Dame Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on
Sunday, June 11behind the wheel of his Mercedes-Benz racing machine.
The victory was his third straight victory in Canada and his 56th career
victory.

The win was his third win of the 2017 season and it earned him 129
points for the season for the FIA Formula One World Championship.
Hamilton is now 12 points behind Ferrari pilot Sebastian Vettal of Germany
who has 141 points on the season.

During Saturdays qualifying (June 10), Hamilton won his 65th career
pole position tying him with the late Ayrton Senna of Brazil who was a
three-time Formula One World Champion.

I cant believe it happen, said Hamilton in post qualifying interview


talking about winning the pole position. Its a very humbling experience.

In Sundays race it was no contest as the Black Englishman led


from flag to flag with his Mercedes with only one pitstop for tires.

Im super happy today, he said during a post race interview. Its


been an amazing weekend. I stayed on the track instead of pitting again
because the tires good. We need more weekend like this.

Hamilton also had wins this year IN China (Apr. 9) and Spain May
14), and second place finishes is Australia (Mar. 26) and Bahrain (Apr. 16).
He also had a fourth place finish in Russia (Apr. 30).
In National Hot Rod Association drag racing, defending Top Fuel
World Champion Antron Brown of Pittsboro, Indiana is still in contention
of winning his fourth world title. Brown was runner up to Steve Torrence of
Kilgore,Texas in the final round of the Top Fuel competition at the NHRA
Summer Nationals on Sunday, June 11 in Englishtown, New Jersey. Brown
finished in second place with a 3.932 elapsed time at 306.76 miles per
hour. Brown was the number one qualifier at the meet running a top speed
of 322.88 mph with an elapsed time of 3.783.

In the preliminary rounds, Brown defeated Blake Alexander in the


opening round with a run of 323.12 mph with an elapsed time of 3.783.
After getting a bye in the quarter-finals, brown defeated Brittany force in the
semi-finals with a 324.94 mph run with an elapsed time of 3.789.

Brown was also top eliminator in Top Fuel with victories at Las
Vegas, Nevada (Apr. 2), and Topeka, Kansas (May 21). He was runner up
at Gainesville, Florida (Mar. 19) and Epping, New Jersey (June 4). Brown is
second in the NHRA in drivers top fuel championship points with 775. Hes
34 points behind current leader Leah Pritchett.

Darrell Wallace, Jr., the first Black driver to race a major


NASCAR race since 2006, finished 26th out of 39 cars at the Pocono 400 in
Pocono, Pennsylvania on Sunday June 1. Driving the number 43 Richard
Petty Enterprises Ford, Wallace qualified Saturday, June 10th in the 16th
position 176.146. His finishing speed on Sunday was an average of
163.157, two laps down.
