Advanced Concert Studies for Trumpet | want to thank the many trumpet players who have made Concert Studies for Trumpet a great success! However, there is always a need to raise the standard higher as we practice to improve our God-given gifts. With this in mind, Advanced Concert Studies for Trumpet has been the next logical step. 1 am so grateful to all of the composers who have written new, challenging studies for this project. They represent a veritable “Who's Who” of composers, familiar to trumpet players worldwide. In Advanced Concert Studies for Trumpet, you will find the same musical and technical challenges found in the original Concert Studies, only on a more advanced level. | am not ashamed to say that I have been stretched in my prezaration for this demo CD. Once again, lyricism is a large component of this book, with technical challenges of range, tonguing, intervals, and key signatures abounding. All of the studies inthis book are presented for Trumpet in Bs. However, Eric Ewazen's “Folk Dance" and Ellen Taaffe Zvilich’s “Spinoff No. 2” were conceived for Trumpet in C. This presents the opportunity for more advanced players to viork on their transposition by playing these studies on a C Trumpet, transposing down one whole step. Obviously then, the more advanced player can work these studies on & and C Trumpets, transposing appropriately. In fact, | recorded Ewazen’s “Folk Dance” and Zwilich’s "Spinoff No. 1" on C Trumpet. In addition, most of these studies can be transposed to ‘Trumpet in B., C, and D. Some can even be transposed to trumpet in A, E, Eb, and F Please see the chart on page 40 for transposition suggestions. ‘Three bonus studies have been ncluded in this collection. While | did not record these, you can find my recording of Zwilich’s "Concerto for Trumpet and 5 Players” on the New World Records label. You will find Turtin’s “Coronation Fanfare” and Broughton’s “Chambers” to be very challenging works Have fun working on these pieces! Maybe | will hear them recorded by you!
