If you have missed my classes and have not prepared, dont waste your
time, instead pray to God.
Its good to have a lot of beautiful options in life but all questions are
compulsory here.

1. In a study conducted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia

Tech, the steel rods supplied by two different companies were compared. Ten
sample springs were made out of the steel rods supplied by each company, and a
measure of flexibility was recorded for each. The data are as follows:

Company A: 9.3, 8.8, 6.8, 8.7, 8.5, 6.7, 8.0, 6.5, 9.2, 7.0
Company B: 11.0, 9.8, 9.9, 10.2, 10.1, 9.7, 11.0, 11.1, 10.2, 9.6

(a) Calculate the sample mean and median for the data for the two
companies.
(b) Plot the data for the two companies on the same line and give your
impression regarding any apparent differences between the two
companies.

2. The lengths of power failures, recorded in the following table.

69 22 21 28 83 98 102 124 112 112 21 43 37 93 95

(a) Find the sample mean and sample median of the power-failure times.
(b) Find the sample standard deviation of the power- failure times.

3. A random variable X has a mean = 8, a standard deviation =3, find the values
for following using chebyschevs inequality
(a) P(4<X<20),
(b) P(|X8|6).

4. Given a standard normal distribution, find the area under the curve that lies
(a) to the right of z = 1.84 and
(b) between z = 1.97 and z = 0.86.

5. Given a random variable X having a normal distribution with = 50 and = 10,

find the probability that X assumes a value between 45 and 62.
