This measure is expected to generate Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission, during
Rs. 210 crore per year.
It has been proposed to raise Rs. 200 crore by
increasing the royalty charged annually on the mining of
sand, gravel and boulder, which currently provided only
Rs. 10 crore to the state.
The tax on lottery daily draw has also been doubled
to Rs. 50,000 daily. This would help in generating an
additional income of Rs. 50 crore.
A voluntary cut of Rs. 1,000 per month in the salary
of all Cabinet rank Ministers and Chief Minister has also
been proposed along with the cut of Rs. 1,000 per annum
in the salary of Class-I officers in the state.
RAJASTHAN
Thermal Power Project Approved
The Rajasthan Government has given administrative
and financial clearance to the proposed 100-MW Kali
Sindh Super Thermal Power Project in Jhalawar district.
The Rs. 4,600 crore project will have an equity
participation of Rs. 920 crore from the State Government.
The project had already been allocated Government
land while steps are being taken to acquire additional
land from the private parties.
An agreement has been signed among state
companies located at Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer for
distribution of power generated at Kali Sindh and at the
under construction 500-MW unit at the Chhabra Super
Thermal Power Station Phase II.

G. S. Maini Receives Santhanam Award
Noted Carnatic musician Vidwan Madurai G. S.
Maini was conferred with the Maharajapuram
Santhanam Memorial Award by the Maharajapuram
Santhanam Foundation on June 23, 2007.
The award was in recognition of his versatility in
Carnatic, Hindustani and film music.
New T.V. Channel Launched
Brindavan Television, a 24-hour spiritual channel in
Tamil was launched on June 25, 2007 by the Chairman of
the National Commission for backward classes.
The channel having a tie-up with VSNL, is head-
quartered in Chennai and has branches in Mumbai and
New Delhi.
The aim of the channel is to spread world peace.

State Gets Central Aid to Meet Rural Drinking
Water Supply Requirements
The Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned
Rs. 13833 crore to the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam, Lucknow
towards balance of first instalment of funds against the
provisional allocation of Rs. 40151 crore made for the
State Government under the Centrally Sponsored
Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (Normal) of

States Surplus Budget Presented
A tax-free, surplus Budget of Uttar Pradesh for the
2007-08 fiscal year was presented on June 29, 2007 by the
States Chief Minister Mayawati, who also has a finance
portfolio. The budget aims at developing rural infra-
structure and improving amenities in urban areas.
The budget outlines a revenue of nearly 100,000
crore in 2007, making UP the first state in the country to
have such a large budget size. 2007 years budget size is 22
per cent more than last years.
In 2007-08, the total expenditure is estimated at
1,00,91141 crore. The total revenue receipts are estimated
at Rs. 99,70926 crore. Though with a deficit of Rs. 1,20212
crore, there is a surplus of Rs. 62096 crore after adjusting
the available public account of Rs. 1,82303 crore.
Revenue expenditure of Rs. 67,872 crore and capital
expenditure of Rs. 33,040 crore is estimated in the Budget.
The total revenue receipts of Rs. 99,709 crore include Rs.
74,017 crore of revenue receipts and Rs. 25,692 crore of
capital receipts.
In percentage terms, the estimated fiscal deficit
against the gross domestic product of the state is 36 per
cent. It was 41 per cent in 2006-07. The total fiscal deficit
in 2007-08 is estimated to be Rs. 12,485 crore.
Several schemes started by previous Mulayam Singh
regime have been scrapped and 512 new development
schemes have been outlined with a total outlay of Rs.
8,900 crore.
The budget aims at 10 per cent growth rate in the
current financial year. This would require an investment
of Rs. 800,000 crore. The budget also aims at reducing the
number of people below poverty line by 50 per cent and
creating jobs.
The outlay for the infrastructure sector has been
hiked by 37 per cent to Rs. 18,430 crore. In comparison to
the last fiscal, the outlay for education has been increased
by 12 per cent to Rs. 12,593 crore. The outlay for the
power sector has been doubled to Rs. 9,200 crore from Rs.
4,530 crore in the last fiscal.
Announcement was made to start a new Ambedkar
Gram Sabha Vikas Yojna which would cover five
villages in each Assembly constituency. Kanshiram Urban
Development Scheme for developing infrastructure in
urban areas was also announced. Besides, Rs. 20 crore
have been provided under Ambedkar Special Rozgar
Yojna to generate self-employment in urban areas.
