Abstract

A Study on the Sindoan() and Phaskri()

Sindoan and 'Phaskri are in complementary relationship

as "inside and outside" because two names of places were
generated as a relative concept of inside of and the opposite
side of the door. It is possible to analyze that the first one,
Sindoan came from the combination of morphemes of sindo+
an and the second, from phsk+kri. The meaning of
morpheme of a name of place, sin'sdo() is 'a new capital
city' that is recorded in Taejosilrok. The original form of
phaskkri is phask()+kri. The morpheme, phask() is
formed by combining an+h+pask>anphask(inside and
outside) and became phask() and finally pha()+kri.
Afterwards, because of rules of euphonic change, it is
changed into phask()+kri>phatkri. Therefore, these two
names of places are closely related to each other. The
process of interpreting names of places has orders. Thus,
after analyzing the original names, and extracting the
morphemes, original names of morphemes will be restored.
After understanding the meaning of morphemes, the exact
meaning of the name of places is founded. These original

words of names of places helps to understand when, why and

how the derivative words were formed.
