Video on the 21st century Education


LCD
Laptop
Meta cards (pink and blue)
Pentel Pens
Glue
Manila Paper
Masking Tape

Philippine Qualifications Framework

Objectives:

In this session, the participants should be able to:

1. Describe the 21st century skills;


2. Identify ways to develop the 21st century skills;
3. Discuss various strategies on how to apply the 21st century skills to
improve teaching and learning.

Activity

Show a video on the 21st Century education.

Analysis

1. Ask the participants the following questions:

a. What have you realized after watching the video?


b. As a Supervisor/teacher, what skills have you exhibited in the
course of your work?

c. Would you say that these skills acquired are considered as 20th
century skills?
d. Since most of you have been exhibiting these 20 th century skills,
how then do these differ from the 21st century skills?

2. Post answers of participants.

Abstraction

In a world of diversity and complexity, the 21 stcentury skills are considered


to be of paramount importance. It is anchored on a significant, systematic and
sustained paradigm shift, which can result in a dramatic transformation of how
students learn in the years ahead.

The resource person shall expound on the 21 st Century Skills:

1. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

Make Judgments and Decisions

2. Creativity and Innovation

Work Creatively with Others
Implement Innovations

3. Communication and Collaboration

4. Information, Communications and Technology Literacy


Apply Technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate, and
communicate information
Use digital technologies (e.g., computers, PDAs, media players, GPS,
etc.), communication/networking tools, and social networks
appropriately to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, and create
information to successfully function in a knowledge economy
Apply a fundamental understanding of the ethical/legal issues
surrounding the access and use of information technologies.

Application

1. Group participants according to their regions.


2. Provide the groups with pink and blue meta cards.
3. In the pink meta cards, ask participants to write the skills they have
been doing in the course of their work. In the blue meta cards, ask
participants to write the 21st century skills that they will start applying.
4. Ask the participants to paste their work on a half sheet of Manila paper.
5. Let the participants post their outputs.
6. Ask the group leader to present their output.
