Leadership analysis
Odysseus is an example of a good leader because of his qualities of competence and
bravery. One way he shows the quality of competence is when he ...carved a massive cake of
beeswax into bits and laid it thick on their ears (111-117). This shows the quality of
competence because Odysseus came up with a plan in order to keep the men from hearing the
Sirens song. He also shows his bravery in this scene. After putting beeswax in their ears,
Odysseus says, They tied me up and took themselves again to rowing. (117-118). By
allowing them to tie him up, he is exposing himself to the truths that Sirens song reveals. This
shows his bravery because the song could lead to harm to Odysseus and the inability to protect
his crew.
