Last week the school had two visiting Principals from two other international Schools in South East
Asia. They were Val Thomas-Peters from the Alice Smith school in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia and Shaun
Williams from the British International School, Vietnam. They looked at many aspects of how our
school is managed against all the documentation and reports I had sent as aprt of our application to
join the Federation of British International Schools of South East Asia (FOBISSEA). Their feedback
about the school was very positive at the end of Tuesday. The next step is for them to submit a report
at the next FOBISSEA Heads meeting in Malaysia where I will be asked to present the school to all
members who will finally then award us full membership. This meeting is in March at the end of my
recruitment trip to the UK to interview new teachers and I will report back on the outcome from this
meeting then.
Residential Experiences.
The school will be a quieter place this coming week with so many year groups out on residential visits.
These are always exciting and challenging experiences for our young people and we hope they enjoy
the different places and activities they will be undertaking around Thailand.

Fun Day
The organisation for this great event moves on at a pace with the PTG working very hard. Raffle tickets
have gone home this week so please join the fun and buy the books. Thank you to those parents who
have already offered help in terms of time, stalls, raffle prizes and in many more ways. There is still
lots to do and more prizes required so if you have not contributed yet please contact the school office
or the PTG with how you can make the day even more enjoyable and successful.
On a musical note no one has come forward yet from our parents with offers to play and entertain
everyone through the afternoon. If you have talents in this area they could be put to good use on this
day.

Recruitment
At this time of year there is much planning to do for next year. We are very lucky again with our staff
turnover being very low. The school has advertised via its website and an international UK teaching paper,
The Times Educational Supplement and now has lots of good applications to fill the vacant posts. The
school will interview many teachers in Bangkok over the next few weeks before I go to the UK for 10 days
to hopefully complete this part of the planning process for next academic year.

I look forward to seeing everyone at Fun Day on Saturday 6th February

Week 2 of the new term saw EYs and KS1 children preparing for the Talent Competition on Fun Day. Mrs
Alice has been watching the children in their music lessons and finding it very difficult to choose children
for the competition as there are some very talented people in EYs and KS1. The week culminated in a little
concert to help make the final decisions for Fun Day.

These pictures are just a few of the children who were brave enough to perform their talents to their
friends and parents. Well done to Tharit, Amy, Aston, Organ, Meyu, Attar, Nymph, Tee, Ferra, Mahima,
Arin and Anna. We really enjoyed listening to you and look forward to fun Day.
Its going to be a very difficult decision for me and the other judges!

Portraits by Year 9
If you walk towards the Quad, you will see a fantastic display of portrait work by Year 9 Art students. Mr Derek
writes:

Last term Year 9 were studying portraiture. They have been comparing and contrasting the Artists Julian Opie and
Lucien Freud. Students have used a number of techniques exploring 'mark making' to create portraits of varying
scale. They were allowed to further develop ideas through the use of Photoshop to manipulate their work and create
multiple images. There have also been involved in classroom discussions learning how art functions in a wider sense
in various professions. Have a look at the full display, which shows examples of work by Golf, Ramu, Nam, Three,
Wasiq, Ramu. Malilka, Natcha, Ikakorn and James.

Residential and Exam Week

I am sure that all students and staff

in Years 7,8,9,10 and 12 will have a
great week on the Residential visits
to Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi, Khao
Yai, Rayong and Prachinburi. I’m
not sure that Year 11 and Year 13
students will be enjoying their week
as much but I’m sure that they, and
their teachers, will find the mock
examination experience useful.

Dear Parents,

Fun Day! Remember, St. Andrews Fun Day will take place on Saturday, 6th February, 2010 so keep that
day free.

This is an important event for the school community and there are many ways you can help in making this
day a success:

1. Sponsor an event

You can help by sponsoring an activity at this year’s event. For example, you may want to sponsor an item
by a student in this year’s Talent Show by offering Bht.1000/- towards this.

2. Become a vendor

Over the years St. Andrews Fun Day has grown in popularity. Last year we had around 1000 people
present on the day. This large attendance makes this a perfect venue to promote your business and/or
sell your product/services. If you are interested in purchasing a stall on this day to showcase your
business, please contact Jyoti Dawar on 08 1639 6998 or email jyotiscakes@yahoo.com.

3. Donate a Raffle Prize

No matter how small or how big, all donations are welcome and acknowledged with gratitude.

4. Purchase & Sell Raffle Tickets

Please support Fun Day by purchasing and selling the Raffle tickets your child brought home Raffle tickets
last week. There is an “Early Bird” prize for those selling/buying most raffle tickets by January 31, 2010.
The tickets should be submitted to the Accounts office with the money. House points are awarded.

5. Lend a Hand

We always welcome your assistance. We have had some parents volunteering their time on the day but
need more. So please, if you can spare some time either before or on 6th February then please contact
the PTG or the school office.

Have a truly wonderful week ahead.
