Assignment TO DO

1) How many pipes in air are required to reach 1865 * 1000 lbs, assuming each pipe is 40 ft.
long.
Assuming a nominal weight of 80.7 lbs/ft, length of each pipe of 40 ft;
Each pipe weighs (80.7 lbs/ft * 40 ft) = 3,228 lbs
Thus, assuming total weight is 1,865,000 lbs
No of Pipes = (1,850,000/3228)
= 573.11
= 573

2) Find the tolerance for OD according to API 5 CT (Specifications) (Note: The OD of a pipe
gives an idea of its size)
Label 1 Tolerance on OD
< 4.5 0.79 mm ( 0.031 in)
> 4.5 -0.5% to +1% of OD

3) Calculate the % difference between the connections and the pipe OD.
PREMIUM CONNECTION CONNECTION DIAMETER (in) PIPE OD (in) DIFFERENCE (%)
SLX 13.614 13.375 0.01786
BLUE 14.354 13.375 0.0732
BLUE NF 13.626 13.375 0.01877
WEDGE 13.738 13.375 0.02714
WEDGE DOPELESS 13.738 13.375 0.02714

4) What factors affect the Burst rating of pipes?

When it is subjected to rotational forces and bending.
5) What factors affect the Collapse rating of pipes?
When it is subjected to rotational forces and bending.
6) Why does Blue connection bend more than wedge connection (API 5C3 on Bending)
7) What is the formula for calculating Burst and collapse, according to API 5C3 (Calculations)

P burst =(0.875(2 * SMYS * t))/OD

Collapse is calculated based on the value of (OD/t). For values of (OD/t)= 13.38 to 22.47,

P collapse =SMYS { }

Tubing (Submission Date: Dec 22nd, 2014)
