Killer rabbits, flatulent Frenchmen, beautiful showgirls, flying cows and the

Knights of the Round Table are just some of the characters who populate Monty
Pythons Spamalot, the multiple Award-winning musical based on Monty Python
and the Holy Grail and co-written by former Python Eric Idle.
Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthurs quest to find the Holy Grail, with
a quite a few twists along the way!

Cast

We are looking for a large cast of all ages, shapes, sizes and abilities.
Aside from the principals and featured ensemble, we will be looking for approx. 12
female dancers, 6 tapping knights and a small ensemble.

Character Descriptions

(We are open to any British regional accents unless specifically stated!)

KING ARTHUR (Male / Late 30s-60s.)


The King of England who sets out on a quest to form the Knights of the Roundtable
and find the Holy Grail. Great Humor.

PATSY (Male / 20s-40s)


King Arthurs horse and servant. Underappreciated but always longing for King
Arthurs approval. Good, funny, physical mover.

SIR ROBIN (Male / 20s-40s)


A Knight of the Roundtable. Ironically called Sir Robin the Brave, though he
couldnt be more cowardly. Joins the Knights for the singing and dancing.

SIR LANCELOT (Male /20s-40s)


A Knight of the Roundtable. He is fearless to a bloody fault but through a twist of
fate, does discover his softer side.

SIR GALAHAD (Male / 20s-30s)


A Knight of the Roundtable. Begins as Dennis, a lower class mud gatherer who
becomes knighted and transforms into the dashing Sir Galahad.

SIR BEDEVERE (Male / 20s-40s): A Knight of the Roundtable. An inept scholar.

LADY OF THE LAKE (Female / 20s-30s)


A feisty Diva who possesses magical powers.

HISTORIAN: (Male or Female / Any age) A tweedy academic. RP accent


NOT DEAD FRED: (Male / Any age) A sickly fellow
MINSTREL: (Male or Female / Any age) In Sir Robins band sings Brave Sir
Robin
PRINCE HERBERT: (Male / 20s-30s) The hopeful and frilly prince who loves to
sing and pines for his love atop a tower. Ends up with Sir Lancelot! Strong Tenor
SIR BORS: (Male Any age) A knight who is attacked by the Killer Rabbit
RABBIT PUPPETEER: (Male or Female / Any age) Puppet operator who is revealed
holding the Killer Rabbit
**The parts below are usually doubled with principal knights - as in the Monty
Python sketches but could possibly be separated for our production?!**
GUARD 1, Price Herberts Guard
BROTHER MAYNARD, a long-winded Monk
THE FRENCH TAUNTER, an arrogant, condescending, over-the-top Frenchman
KNIGHT OF NI, an absurd, cartoonish leader of a peculiar group of Knights
TIM THE ENCHANTER, a ghostly being with a Scottish accent
MAYOR, jolly red-faced Mayor of Moose Village (Finland) Sings Fish Schlapping
Song)
GUARD 2, Prince Herberts drunk & useless guard
PRINCE HERBERTS FATHER, a wealthy, brutish Yorkshireman man at odds
with his sensitive son,
THE BLACK KNIGHT, who is always ready to duel despite multiple injuries.
DENNIS GALAHADS MOTHER (MALE), a shrill peasant woman
CONCORDE, Sir Lancelots horse.
